One more step getting us closer to “normalcy”...

Imagine if I told you 5 years ago that one day you'd be excited cause you could refill your own soda, and maybe even take off your face diaper in the fresh air and sunshine if one man decided it was ok. That'd be a trip...

No kidding.

I didn’t think it would happen but I think no masks outdoors is a possibility for WDW this summer.

Supposedly the CDC is making an announcement updating the outdoor mask guidelines tomorrow. I imagine the only updating that can happen is that the outdoor mask requirement will be dropped (at least for fully vaccinated individuals). Does anyone have any ideas on where this leaves Disney? There's no way to know what adults are and aren't vaccinated. Obviously none of the children are.

Eh, it was a thread about steps back to normalcy. Soda was a pretty big step, and an indoor only mask policy would be an even bigger one. This mask conversation is different that the typical mask threads, as it's a thread of hope and excitement for the future and our sacrafices paying off.

Eh, I saw someone on this thread call a mask a “face diaper,” which makes it not very different than the typical mask threads. All the mask threads end up in the same place, this one might just take a little longer. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think it's going to be tough for Disney to justify making people wear their face diap- **life-saving and wonderful glorious mouth cloth that is beyond criticism** outdoors once the CDC says it's not necessary.

I'm here now and it's clear CMs are excited to get back to a place where mask enforcement is not part of their job. I know this has the cadence of "WeLL I HeArD FrOm a BuS DrIvEr..." but I talked to a CM at Beach Club yesterday who said he and his coworkers are operating under the assumption that a LOT more will be open in June. NORMAL IS COMING! :D We're so close!

From an interview on Sunday:
ANTHONY FAUCI: You know, I don't want to get ahead of them, George. But I think it's pretty common sense now that outdoor risk is really, really quite low, particularly -- I mean, if you are a vaccinated person, wearing a mask outdoors, I mean, obviously, the risk is minuscule.

The only reason I’m not 100% is it would require cast members at every entrance to remind folks to mask as they enter.

They're already babysitting the lines around corners (and other spots that seem totally random to me). I don't think this would be a consideration.

Is it that hard to just call it a mask? Good grief 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t particularly enjoy wearing one all the time either.

Anyway, CDC updated outdoor mask guidance just came out a few minutes ago - as expected, they said that masks should still be worn in crowded places outdoors, so most likely nothing will change in terms of outdoor mask wearing in the parks at this time.

I also think Disney will adjust their outdoor mask rules when the CDC changes their outdoor guidance for crowded places.

CDC also confirmed they are still saying "fully vaccinated people should also avoid medium-sized gatherings" (and large-sized gatherings), so I guess WDW needs to close all their parks to be in full compliance. Oh wait, the parks are still open. I guess Disney doesn't need to follow everything the CDC says afterall. :)

MickeyWaffles - literally in the link you posted is the sentence "The updated CDC guidance recommends that fully vaccinated people continue to avoid medium or large-sized gatherings. "
