One more question - on Use Year

Again thanks much to all who have been patiently answering all my probably oft repeated questions.

I went ahead, after taking many things into consideration, and called my guide and switched our Use Year back to December. I do play way ahead and am very good at planning, so it's unlikely I'll lose points; even with a May banking deadline.

So, apparently I get 2006 points. Does that mean they are the current year from December 2006 - November 2007? And then the banking deadline would be May 2007?

My sister wants to take her babysitter with us to Disneyland in January. (She's been with the family since my 14 year old niece was a baby and has never been there.) Our family will likely get a 2 bedroom suite, but that's not available with points. If she takes the babysitter, she'd need a separate room for her, so I was thinking of giving her points in exchange for us not paying her back for the part of the suite (we probably owe for about 3 years of that anyway). Can I use the points that I will be getting in December for that?

Finally, we want to go to France for our anniversary in 2008 (our main 2007 vacation is already paid for). I'm thinking of an II exchange, plus DLP for a few days. Is it too late for that? And, in 2008 would it be paid for with banked 06 points, current 2007 points and if necessary borrowed 2008 points? (Unless we go in December?).

In summary, it looks like a December Use Year means that for 11 months your current year is actually previous year?

Do I understand this? I like to think I'm pretty smart, but this confuses me.

Thank you!

Abby

It's all so confusing isn't it? But it looks like you have everything correct, or at least that's how I understood it to work. Also, small side note, with the DEC use year, technically you will get one extra years worth of points, because you are getting the 2006 points instead of waiting for the 2007 points if you would of went with the APR use year.

Congratulations and :welcome: home

I'm not sure how Dec UY works......but I would have thought that you will get 2005 UY points and Dec 06 will be 06 points. Its like you would be a year behind. I leave this for the veteran DVC owners though. I have a Aug UY so from Jan to July 31 of this year I had 05 points and my 06 points kick in on Aug 1 of 06 to July 31st of 07. Its like a fiscal year in business.

If you are purchasing NOW, you need to ask your guide if they are including any 2005 points, since you are currently in your 2005 use year. Your 2006 use year will indeed be through MOST of 2007. The points you get Dec. 1st 2006 will be for stays through November 30, 2007.

Thanks for the replies so far.

The guide did say that we were buying into the current construction phase, so would not get our points until December. He did say that because the "units" they were selling now were under construction it was technically selling future units. This leads me to believe that I will have the scenario I describe.

Also, if they gave us 2005 points, we'd have like 1 month to use them, at least that's how I read this.

I guess they'll be sending out some information in the next day or so.

thanks again,

If you are purchasing with the current incentive at SSR, you will have a December Use Year and will get your first allotment of points on December 1, 2006 (there are no current points, since the unit being sold has not yet opened).

All Use Years span two calendar years - those with a February Use Year go thru the following January just as those with a December Use Year go thru 11 months of the following calendar year. This tends to be a great source of confusion for members since annual dues are all based on the calendar year and all Use Years span parts of 2 calendar years. We just remember what Use Year our travel plans fall into to help sort out how best to utilize our points.

It appears that you have a good understanding of the issues based on your initial statements.

Enjoy! .... and Welcome Home! :)

This is absolutely correct. My paperwork states that my unit's estimated date of occupancy is 11/7. There are no 2005 points with the current incentive. I understand that in the past you had the option to take the credit or current use year points. Under this incentive that is not an option.

I agree. Abbydancer, you seem to have a pretty good grasp on it.
