One more HHI question.

Are there jellyfish on the beach? If yes, is there a lot of them?

There weren't any jellyfish to be seen on the beach when we were there last week.

We were at HHI the first week of August 2008. A couple of people were stung by jellyfish. You could see them going to the lifeguards for a spray from "the bottle". However they must have been few and far between, because our family did not see any and the water was just LOVELY.

We are at HH right now and have not seen any jellies washed up on the beach this week. When we were here last month my DW was stung on the foot - so they are certainly around at times. She has been stung on a couple of occasions over the years. As the water begins to cool I understand they will disappear until next season. If you are stung, spraying white vinegar on the area will neutralize the nematocysts from the sting. Do not put fresh water on the sting as that releases more venom. You can also rub on salt, sugar, meat tenderizer or dry sand and scrape the area with a credit card (or razor) to try to remove the embedded stings. You can also rinse with salt water.

The ocean temps right now are still in the mid-80s. We spent about an hour in the surf yesterday and are heading back down to the beach in a few minutes.

Back in June we saw them washed up on the beach occasionally. The sea creature that surprised us the most though was the sting ray we saw out in the wather one day. It was only in about a foot of water just swimming around. Neat.
