one more child custody question

Here's the sitch--my DS is staying in the cabin with my parents. We will be right next door, connecting in fact, with the girls.
The TA advised dad to have me fill out the custody form in the docs, the one that needs to be notarized. Is that really necessary if his parents will be checking in at the next counter?
One other thing--will he be able to get off the boat with us, or will my parents have to go with us?

Sorry, but the details you've given are not totally clear to me.

But would it resolve everything for you if you just put DS in your cabin on paper and just let your cabin stewards know that he'll really be staying in the other cabin?

As long as a parent or guardian is sailing, it doesn't matter where the child sleeps. You DO NOT have to have the minor form completed.

The form is "This Form Is For Minors Under Age 18 Traveling Without Their Parent or Legal Guardian". You ARE traveling with you son.

Any minor can get off the ship as long as there is an adult with them- so the grandparents do not have to be with the child.

Yeah, I would just go and let the child sleep whereever. They won't be bedchecking. If you have too many in your room, then you have to, but as you said you are right there and have proof with you (right?). So I don't see a problem.

Thanks to all. Yes we are listed in the passport as his parents, same last name, same address. We can't put him in our room on paper because we will have 4 in the room (cat. 6) already. Mom and Dad graciously agreed to have DS in their room (doesn't hurt that Mom spoils her only grandson rotten!)

We just did the same thing on our May cruise. We listed my son on our documents even though he was "officially" staying in my parents room. My parents had all of their 5 grandkids on the cruise so the kids were fighting over who sleeps with Nannie and Poppy(LOL). You only need his KTTW card to get him on and off the ship. You do not need your parents there. Have a great time!
