We tried to stay on-site for one night, but there were not enough rooms for our party (at a decent cost at least:goodvibes) So we are going to IOA one day and US the other. The dates we are going are March 18 (sunday) and March 21 (Wednesday). I had orignially planned on going to IOA on the Sunday because my kids are super excited and reading recommendations. I just noticed that the Mardi Gras celebration is happening that weekend. I was curious the crowds with this. I guess my fear is that everyone will go to US for the Mardi Gras parade on Saturday and then flock over to IOA on Sunday? What do you think?

Crowds for Mardi Gras are pretty large for the parade and concert. Since there is no concert on 3/18 or 3/21, either should be fine to go. IOA crowds don't usually feel the affects of MG so again...either day would be fine. Remember too...lots of locals attend the concerts which doesn't mean huge crowds at IOA the next day.

Also keep in mind that Spiderman is set to re-open sometime during March (I can't find a set date on the Universal website). Right now the Universal website says :

"More information and a re-opening date are coming soon."

So, if by chance Spiderman opens on say the 20th, I would make my IOA day on the 21st. This way you could ride this amazing ride. I doubt the re-opening of the ride will draw big crowds into the park since it is really just a tech overhaul, but I would hate to miss out on it. So, thats something to think about. I would just keep an eye on the Universal website to see when they announce an opening day.

If it opens sooner, your plan will work just fine. Like Metro said, the MG event on a Sat. will not really effect crowd levels on Sunday.
