One last thought on the Titan Submersible Disaster

We all know what it was. We've all seen the images of the stricken sub on the ocean floor. But please, a little restraint? The bodies of the deceased were still in that thing and we were treating it like candid camera. Perhaps a little respect for the dead?

There are a number of posts on You Tube of deceased people lying in caskets. Is that ok or is it a lack of respect for the dead. We are not sure that there was much of anything left in the unit after it imploded but it is important to make it clear that someone made a very large mistake and that mistake cost their life and the life of others. That is not something that should be sugar coated. It is something that is in everyone's face as the avoidable tragedy that it was.

I have arranged to be cremated with no "wake". I consider even a closed casket and or or urn is something that I don't want to be shown except at the inurnment. My daughters are welcome to view my remains if they want, but I'm not sure why they wouldn't want to remember me as a live vibrant person and not some cold arrangement of cells. Up to them, of course, but no one else.

I remember when I was in High School. The drinking age in my state was 21, but our neighboring state was 18. One evening a carload of our classmates decided to drive to that state and on the way back lost control of the car and it smashed into a tree. All six of the kids were killed, mangled would be a better word. The state decided that it would be a good idea to have the car hauled to the parking lot of our school and all of us were forced to view it up close. It was awful but no one I know went across state lines again for the rest of the year. Traumatic, but it might have saved a few more lives.

I doubt the bodies were still inside the remains of the sub. But, even if they were, they were trying to go see the Titanic... a large graveyard itself...
