I'm trying to remove a few songs from my iTunes playlist. I followed the advice of another DISer and tried highlighting a song and hitting the delete key, but that doesn't work (I highlight it, but when I hit delete, nothing happens). Help! What do I do next? I tried going to the discussion boards on the Apple website, and I kept getting error messages that I didn't have permission to post. Thanks!

Debi, try right clicking on the song you want deleted with your mouse, and select "Clear" That should do it

Can you right click after you have highlighted the song, getting a popup menu with delete on it? Or is there a delete icon or link at the top of the iTune screen?

I see Elaine and I were answering same time, LOL, but I was guessing, she knows. :)

When I right click on the song, I do get a popup menu, but there's nothing on it about delete/clear. My options are: get info, my rating, show song file, reset play count, convert ID3 tags, convert selection to AAC, uncheck selection, copy. Any other suggestions?

Debi, we use Macs, but it should be the same with a PC.

Open up iTunes
Go to the playlist you want to delete the song from.
Click on song to highlight it.
Go to the edit menu and select clear.

If you are in a playlist, it will ask you if you want to remove the song. If you choose "remove it", it will remove the song from that playlist. If you are in the library, it will ask you if you want to keep the files or move them to the trash. The difference is when you say you want to keep the files in the library, it will remove them from the list only, but keep them in your iTunes library directory. If you choose to move it to the trash, it will remove the song file from your listing and remove it from your iTunes library directory to the trash. There you can delete it for good.

Again, this is how we do it on our Mac. I hope it works for you.

Be sure the selected song has a checkmark by it, highlight it, then hit delete, or go to edit, then click clear.

I just went and tried to delete a song from a playlist and it wouldn't work for me either! Even if I checked it, it wouldn't delete. I realized I was trying to delete from a "Smart Playlist", rather than a regular playlist. When I went to a regular playlist, it worked. Try that, see if it works. I didn't even have to check it.

The smart playlist icon is purple with what appears to be a gear in the middle, the regular playlist is blue with a music note in the middle.

Okay, I finally did get my songs to delete. Now, I'm having another problem. I downloaded songs from iTunes, and they're saved in my playlist. However, when I plug in my iPod, the songs don't transfer from iTunes to my iPod. Help! What am I doing wrong?

Check your iTunes or iPod settings- one is auto-update, and one is manual update. You should have it set on auto update if you want new tunes to automatically go in your iPod when you update it.

How did you finally get the tune to delete?

Jackie

Okay, I finally figured it out. :) I had the manual update checked off, and I needed to switch it to auto reset. All is well in the iPod world now.
