One Last AP Question

I'm going to go ahead and get my pass only if its true that it will not be activated until I show up at the parks. I'll be going to the parks on July 5th. I want to go ahead and get my AP now if I can because I have the money to just go ahead and get it over with. So... I'll get a voucher and then get my picture taken and the actual AP on July 5th and it will be valid until July 5th 2010 right? I could be completely off but I want to double check before I buy this tonight.

Yes it should be dated the first day of use. Be aware that the parks are probably going to be busy for the July 4 weekend. You should probably go early and get in line or else they may ask you to come back the next day. That's what what happened to us in January, twice. That's how long the lines were all day/night. It was actually a good thing, as my DH & DS APs were dated the day we did it. I had a smart CM who caught her mistake and backdated mine to the day before.

I went ahead and purchased my Deluxe AP. So it sounds like I need to make a detour from Vegas on my way to my new place and activate my pass on July 2nd, right? That way I won't have to worry about not being able to get in on the 5th. Is that the best way to go about it?

Since you purchased a Deluxe pass, it will not allow you addmission on July 5th. I believe that from July 3-5 (4th of July holiday weekend) all AP's are blacked out except for Premium APs. If that's the only day you can go, you will have to either buy a blackout pass (I think $40) or upgrade to a Premium AP.

Just thought you'd like to know, so that you're not surprised when your Deluxe pass won't allow your addmission on July 5th.

Since you purchased a Deluxe pass, it will not allow you addmission on July 5th. I believe that from July 3-5 (4th of July holiday weekend) all AP's are blacked out except for Premium APs. Boo, if you want to get it on July 5, they will let you in even if it's a block out day. Our first day in the park was Saturday Jan 3 - a block out day. They will allow new AP voucher holders in on block out days. (If it's your first day in the park.) Unless that has changed in the very recent past, that is the way it is. Once you get the AP you will not be allowed in without buying a block out pass.

ETA: My point on my previous post was to let you know that the park will be busy. It could be a great thing if it's packed. They may punch your ticket (they give you a ticket for your voucher when you go through the turnstiles) and ask you to come back the next day. If you get a frazzled CM like my DH and DS did, that person might not catch that your AP is supposed to be dated the day before and date yours for July 6. However, if you can't be in the parks on July 6, you should just make sure to take care of it as soon as you get in the park on the 5th.

No no no!!!!!! Go on the 5th, you can activate your Deluxe AP on a blackout day and not pay the blackout fee. If you activate it on the 2nd you will have to pay the blackout fee on the 5th. Trust me on this, I have done it before. And yes, the Deluxe AP is blacked out for all of July 4th weekend, the 3rd-5th I believe.

Thanks everyone! I'm considering upgrading to Premium once I get my DDRD card for $101. How do I upgrade when I only have my eticket? Should I call the AP line?

You can upgrade when you go to the AP processing center with no problems!

Yup, you just process your upgrade at the bank. Even if you decide to upgrade after you've had your Deluxe for a while you just go to the bank. We got Deluxe APs in Jan for DBF and myself, we went back in Feb and upgraded ours and the kids to Premium at the same time.
