I'll be going to WDW in October as part of a larger group. Most of the group is staying at the Boardwalk, however, I'm either going to stay at Pop Century of POFQ in order to save money. Most of the rates I'm seeing on rental cars for that time are $150-225, which is a heckuva lot more than the Magical Express! But still a lot less than the difference between a value resort and a deluxe. 
So, would it be worth it for me to rent a car, or should I get crafty with the "I'll take the bus over and meet you at Town Hall" kind of pre-planning?
