I came across this news story that I thought I'd share regarding a new book about Karl Rove and a new book that claims that his stepfather was gay.

from every thing I've heard, Karl is a real jerk but it's still sad about his mom. I don't think people ever really get past something like that.
I also couldn't help but think it's got to be awful for those kids growing up with parents spouting off like Phyllis Schlafly does. Rough.

Wow, pepole really are capable of carrying the most amazing load of cognitive dissonance. In the examples that the article sites, to bad effect.

But, also, in other circumstances, I think, to good effect. In fact, I often teach that the major characteristic of being human is the ability to hold, equally tightly, two opposing points of view.

Still, with all that said, I don't think we're getting to the heart of this situation.

In my most cynical moments I don't think many of those folk are caring a twit about lesbian and gay folk, one way or the other; I think they're caring about how to use people, who DO care, to secure more power.
