If we do one night at DTD what would be your recommendation?
Here are the details:
We would love a kid-friendly place that won't destroy our wallet!
There are 4 of us, 2 parents and DS, 10 and DD 8. DS is somewhat picky, DD is not picky but diabetic so we need to count carbs with her.
Any suggestions? :wave2:

Thanks for any help.

Karen

This is a great place to dine. The food is great and not that expensive

The Rainforest Cafe is great - especially for the kids! And, your DD will find plenty of low carb choices!

Thanks for your replies...let me ask this though, are there any recommendations for places that are not chains or local chains? We have eaten at several Rain Forest Cafes and a House of Blues already!!
BTW, I thought Rain Forest Cafe was at AK?

We just had a really nice lunch at Captin Jack's. It was kid friendly and is on the water. Some review's I had read said it was so so, but we tried it and were glad we did.

There are 2 of them. While I know Planet Hollywood gets a lot of bad reviews, we have eaten there a few times and always have a good meal. The LA Lasagna is delicious(and enough to share)!

We have eaten at Bongos. It's very tasty Cuban food. Not too pricey, nice atmosphere. I would suggest you check out the menu and see if it would be something of interest to you. We really like it!

don't forget about wolfgang puck express or earl of sandwich. both are in the marketplace portion of dtd. also, portabello yacht club is excellent.

Portobello Yacht Club is a great place to eat. It is a little more expensive than other places, but worth the money.

We always enjoy Planet Hollywood.

Am I the only one that thinks Rainforest is expensive? Or have they lowered their price? A few years back we ate here and this was the most expensive meal of the trip - way more then the character meals - which we usually do 3-4 of!

Yes, Rainforest is expensive!!! DH and I drive over and spend time on week-ends at DTD and we usually go in and have something "light" to tide us over till dinner. The bill is never "light" and we usually just have appetizers! And yes, we could actually pay for an entire meal another place for what we spend on "snack" type food at Rainforest. ::yes::

We had dinner at Portobello 2 weeks ago and it was not good. My steak was tough and fatty. DH said his usual was not as good as it used to be either. We had eaten there in March with a similar experience. I was hoping it was just an "off" night, but based on our last experience I don't think so.

Keep in mind this was one of our favorites, so it pains me to write this. I hope things improve because we truly loved eating here.

We ate at HOB, RFC and Planet Hollywood. HOB and RFC rocked. RFC by far the most kid friendly with good food. Planet Hollywood was kid friendly (older kids) but food was mediocre at best. I thought it was ridiculous for a kids meal ($8) drink extra and the choices stunk, IMO.

You are gonna get mixed reviews here. It's like tossing a coin, different outcomes. I say look at allearsnet.com at all the menu's (and your DH too) and decide at that point. You can see what they have and the prices for each place.

There is a McDonalds there that is very kid friendly and won't break your pocket, but you can eat there anytime and anyplace.

We really like Fulton's but it is more for couple or older kids. That being said Cap'n Jacks works well for kids and it not quite as expensive. Ghiridellis' is also there and is great for desserts.

I you want something not a chain I would definately say Capt. Jack's. And I would skip Bongo's. It isn't a good place to count carbs, lots of rice, beans and plantains.

My vote is for the Rainforest Cafe. Enjoy! ::MickeyMo
