We are taking an Amtrak vacation to St. Augustine in December to see the Downton Abbey exhibit. However, we will have enough time to take a one-day trip over to Disney. I just can't decide what park to make use of since it will be the first week of December. Not interested in HS, but can't decide between the other three.

If you had one day that time of year, which park would you choose? AND which day of the week would you go (we are there Friday to Wednesday).

So you are looking at renting a car for the day? and paying for one day tickets? and parking? and drive 2 hours each way?

I would probably just enjoy St. Augustine.

There are so many things there, great foodie town and really worth committing your entire trip to.

Animal Kingdom (unless you have visited it earlier in the year)
Pandora (Avatar) is opening in May with 2 new attractions - Flight of Passage & Na’vi River Journey.
Plus the Rivers of Light night show recently opened.

No, we are renting the car for the whole week we are in Florida. Since we don't get to Florida that often anymore, we thought a day at Disney was worth the drive.

However, I would greatly appreciate any recommendations you can make for places to stay and places to eat in St. Augustine! Thanks much.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party will likely come out cheaper than a 1 day ticket. You can enter the park at 4pm with the party ticket

Good point!

Now we're thinking maybe Kennedy Space Center instead for a day. Any thoughts?

As a side note...this exhibit is awesome! I went three times when it was in Chicago (signed up for a year museum membership to get unlimited entry with different friends.) If the museum is offering the tea, be sure to go!

Some friends went last week and said that they were there 8 hours and it wasn't enough...and they aren't "space geeks" so to speak. So keep that in mind if you are thinking Kennedy Space Center in the day and MK at night and an hour+ drive each way from Orlando.

Thanks -- I'll check it out.

No, it's going to be one or the other. We're not going to do both places in one day. In fact, we're only going to go to one of them for the whole trip. We have six days there, but I'd like to spend most of them in St. Augustine. Thanks.

SOOOO, can anyone recommend places to stay or eat in St. Augustine?

Just ate, we stayed in a motel outside St Aug along the water, short drive from the city.

I'd love to know the name of the motel. Did you like the location?

I remember liking it and the oceanfront location but the name escapes me at the moment. I'll ask wifey to check our credit card transactions from March 2012 and I'll PM you if we come up with it.

Thanks so much. I've done a search -- but the number of places is overwhelming. I'd prefer referrals rather than guess.

I think I've come up with a happy medium for us that won't cost us a park ticket -- maybe we'll drive to Downtown Disney, take in the Cirque show and see the new surroundings. Last time we were there they were in the midst of construction.
