One day, what (if any) restaurant?

We have eaten in almost every restaurant in Walt Disney World and Disneyland CA, and the meals are a major part of our Disney experience. We will be in DLP for just 1 evening and all of the following day--what restaurant would you recommend that is worth an hour or two out of our schedule? Or should we just eat quickly at a counter service to make the most of our time in the park? Which counter service?

Thanks.

I would recommend Walts on Mainstreet or Inventions which is a character buffet in Disneyland hotel - wonderful food

For me, it would be Cafe Mickey, simply because of the great character interaction there.

I would recommend Cafe Mickey (Disney Village) or the Rainforest Cafe (Also Disney Village.). They are both a bit pricey, but the food and theming of both restaurants was fab.

I do recommend taking a bit of time out for a meal and a relax... Helps bring your energy levels back up for more fun in the park! :goodvibes

I think I would say Inventions at the DLH or Cafe Mickey purely because they are open after the park closes, if I were there for 1 day only I wouldn't want to take time out of the park to eat.
If I really wanted to push the boat out and go a la carte, it would have to be California Grill at the Disneyland Hotel. :goodvibes

I would have lunch at Walts. We did that on Sunday and when we tried to return to make a reservation for Monday to eat there again because we liked it so much, we found out it is only open on the weekends! Great restaurant. We ate in the room overlooking Mainstreet.

To help you decide, my tastes run to California Grill, Jiko's, Yachtsmen steakhouse and Brown Derby when at WDW. If your taste is similar, you'll like Walt's.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I love California Grill at WDW, so it sounds as if Walt's should be my place...if they are open weekdays in August.

I was going to recommend Walt's too. They should be open every day in August.

I'm not sure if it's important to you to watch the parade. You could make a booking for Walt's for an hour before the parade and might be lucky enough to get a window seat. It's worth popping in there a little while before your reservation and ask if it's possible. The reason why I asked if it was important to see the parade was in case they couldn't accommodate your request and you missed it altogether.

If I could only eat at one restaurant, I would choose Walt's. It's so nicely decorated by concept art and objects used to create the park, that you still feel like you're touring the park. Eating there won't give you the idea you're missing out on park time.

For a quick bite, we like the sandwiches from the Cable car bakery (I love the onion roll with mozarella en patrami. Now that I think about it, I'm hungry!)

Walts isn't open every day in August because I tried to book for 27th August and was told it was closed. I thought they must have been renovating but now I've read it is only open at weekends that explains the closure.

Walt's only opened on weekends? In August?
I can't really believe that.
Maybe you tried to make reservations for too late in the evening. Depending on park closure time, it might get closed earlier.

With all the people that have the meal vouchers now, the restaurants attract more people than before. I can't really believe they close that restaurant in high season, after it has been open in low season!

We've been discussing this in the 'Walts' thread.... We think it might only open weekends in low season, then open all days except Monday and Tuesday in high season....

I think that's exactly right! :-)

OMG!
I don't go for... a month or so to the park, and everything changes??????

I'm just gonna sit and pray its open when I go next!! I'm really desperate to go!!

Closed Monday and Tuesday? You all had convinced me to go there for my "one day" dining adventure, but we are visiting on a Tuesday. Maybe I will try to book it and see what they say.

Of course, that makes my decision about whether to take time out of the park much easier, doesn't it?

Joan- I think you need to consider what your priority is and then make the decision knowing that a meal at DLRP can take twice/three times as long as one at WDW (and the park hours were VERY short when we were there in May- 10am-7pm). If the priority is the meal, then go for it. We just returned from a one day trip from Paris. We had a large group of 6 and the main reason we were going was for our teens to have a good time, and we had great lunches and dinners every other day in Paris. Although we love our WDW fancy meals and always include these even with the kids, we decided it wasn't worth the time at DLRP for a one day trip. If you have time the first evening and you won't be buying a park ticket- then from my research my choice would be to go for a meal at Innoventions. Walt's sounds wonderful, but I've read reports from people taking 3+ hours with reservations with their wait for their table. We ate a CS lunch at Cafe Hyperion walked in about 11:15am (early) and with only a few people in line it took forever...we were in there over 45 min. (after reading up, I don't think this amount of time is long at all for CS even) and we ate fast as the kids had FP's that were coming up- we were just looking for a quick burger. If time at the parks is a priority, you might ask others how long they've spent on their meals at Walt's.
