Can one buy a one-day park hopper ticket? If so, from what source?

Yep they have that available.
We usually get our tickets at the disney store, however I'm sure you can get it at the gate and possibly disney online.

A one-day hopper is SO expensive! You pay a flat $40 plus tax to hop - whether you have a one-day ticket or a ten-day. If you think you'll go back in the future, better in my opinion to buy a longer hopper pass and add the no-expiration option.

The Disney Store doesn't sell anything less than a 3-day ticket.

I agree with the poster who recommends that if you even think you might go back in the future, buy a longer no expiration park hopper pass. You save so much in the long run. We have days left from a trip in 1997 that at the time we thought was expensive and today is less expensive than a one day entry.

Yes. you sure can get a one-day park hopper pass.

I'm sure OP has a reason for needing a pass that will allow them to go to more than one park in one day. (perhaps a family member is coming to visit while they're at WDW, or they onlyh have one day and want to try to hit as many parks as possible...)
even if you were palnning on coming back in the future, you wouldn't be able to use that multi-day ticket on the same day, which is what it seems you need to do for whatever reason it may be.
happy planning
:)

Yes, you can add the hopper option to a one-day pass.

The only place you can buy a one-day pass is at the gate.

An adult one-day MYW Base Ticket is $67.10w/ tax. The hopper add-on is $42.60w/ tax. So an adult one-day hopper will cost you $107.10, including tax.

A kids one-day MYW Base Ticket is $55.38w/ tax. The hopper add-on is $42.60w/ tax. So a kids one-day hopper will cost you $97.98, including tax.

Very steep, IMHO.

Maybe its something new, but about three days ago we bought a 1-day park hopper at the disney store.
What you experienced was not the norm. Your location on your profile lists you in Florida and Florida Disney Stores offer varying ticket options than a typical Disney Store. Outside the Florida stores, only 3-7 day tickets are available at the Disney Store. And the 3 day ticket is relatively new...they stopped selling it after Animal Kingdom opened, but reintroduced it after Magic Your Way debuted (January 2005). Disney Store ticket offering also vary based on what coast you're closer to. West coast Disney Stores do not carry tickets to Disney World and east coast stores do not carry tickets to Disneyland...however those stores can still special order those specific tickets.

Actually you can also purchase one day passes at disneyworld.com as well...not just the gate. I just checked there and the total is $109.70 for an adult one-day pass with park hopper option (your total was off by $2 but no biggie).

I definitely agree, though...very steep.

Disney really discourages the one day guest with the Magic Your Way ticket pricing. But truly does benefit those staying for a week. Before our trip in early May, I came across three of the old Park Hopper tickets. So I brought them along. It the old days you could apply their value to a Magic Your Way ticket. No longer. Must be used as is. I found this to be very unfriendly.
And I adore Disney. But come on... give me a break.... just sometime....

It is a bad bargain to do a 4 day vacation with a combination of partly used tickets and new MYW tickets. If you don't have enough leftovers, it is more cost effective to buy one new ticket to cover it all.

Do you need to hop on each of the four days?

Incidentally a 10 day non-expiring ticket is not a good substitute for a 1 day hopper unless the remaining 9 days will completely cover two entire future vacations. A 7 day non-expiring ticket will offer savings over a 1 day hopper if the remaining 6 days completley cover one future vacation.

FYI,

In April a friend of mine and I paid ~ $62 for 1 day park hoppers with a Florida Resident discount

As others have said, if there is any chance at all that the person who will be using the TKT will be going back, then you should seriously consider a non expiration multi day MYW TKT :)
