One day trip in August- to bring an umbrella stroller or nothing?

I have 2 boys that will are 5 and nearly 4 (he will be less than a month away from his 4th birthday). We normally rent strollers on longer trips, but we are going for just one day in August while we're camping at Fort Wilderness.

We're from Florida so we're familiar with the horrid August heat.

So here's the predicament: I do not want to spend $30 on a 1 day stroller rental for a double...and I doubt I can convince DH to spend $15 or more on a single. We still have 2 very basic umbrella strollers that we could bring. I don't think the 5 year old will need it, but I am not sure about the 4 year old. It has no shade on it so I worry that if he's sitting in a stroller he's going to get even hotter.

We are planning on going 8-12ish (EMH), take a long afternoon break, then go back 5-9ish so we will never be there for more than 4 or 5 hours at a time.

What do you think? Should I just suck it up and rent a stroller which has the shade, bring our shadeless umbrella stroller, or attempt to go stroller-less?

I'd bring the strollers, then you'll have them if you need them. I'd also hate to pay the $30 for one day. If you need the strollers, then make sure your son has a billed hat to protect him from the sun and heat a bit.

I would bring one but try the morning without it. That is what we are going to do with dd3 and dd5. We will probably use it in the evening. DD5 walked almost the entire time last year when she was 4. It was a 10 day trip but in the evenings she was tired even with a 2 hour nap. I can't wait until they are old enough to walk the whole trip.

Thanks! I think I'll go with your idea, Liltx. My kids are pretty active and will probably be able to keep up in the morning...but the evening I'm sure they'll be dragging even with a long nap.

If I do use an umbrella stroller in the morning, I like the idea of using a cap. Thanks mickeymousemom
