One day tix?

this is my first time on the disneyland forum and maybe our first time to disneyland itself -- in early july. been to WDW 5x. when i checked the daily tix i was shocked at the prices - usually we go to wdw for 5-8 days and obviously the per day cost is more reasonable. i was shocked at the cost for a family of four (DS 13, DD 10).

Does DL ever discount daily tix in this ecomony - don't laugh! :confused3

just wondering what my options are for a day trip- if any. thanks in advance

The more days you add on, the cheaper each day becomes. DH and I have APs because of our upcoming anniversary trip but our boys don't. We all went over the holidays for a day and had to buy the boys one day tickets.

I don't think there are really discounts. Some unions give a slight discount. We didn't bother because it wasn't much and it was easier to buy the e-tickets online.

You can't go for 3 days? One day is rather rushed and you won't get to see a lot. Other people might know of a travel place that offers a small discount but you might also want to consider the e-tickets. Whatever you do, get them ahead of time because you do not want to wait in line at the ticket booth first thing in the morning.

Oh, and be careful of Southern California deals. If you live in certian zip codes down there you can get some good deals at various times. But if not, you can't use them and I've heard they check.

Going 5-8 days does really make the price per day more reasonable, at both DL and WDW. However is you look at the price of a one day ticket for disneyland ($69) vs disneyworld ($75), DL is less expensive.

If you are only planning one day, then I do not believe there are many discounts. Unfortunatly, just like at WDW, the discount comes in purchasing a multiple day ticket.

If you want one day park hopper tickets, then the cost is around $90, as I recall. This is what we did. We didn't want to be restricted to just one park. We like to hop back and forth 3 or 4 times. Also glad we did because we finally got the boys on California Screamin. They wouldn't go last summer. This time we got them on it and they loved it! I knew they would! :rotfl:

I agree, I would do the parkhopper too. And at $90, that is still cheeper than the $125 for WDW 1 day hopper.

IMO, a one-day one-park ticket at DL is better than a one-day one-park ticket at MK because there are more rides and there's more stuff crammed into a single park. If you plan your day well, you get more bang for your buck than if you were to spend the same amount for time and money doing touristy stuff in the greater LA area.

thanks guys- i appreciate it.

as mentioned, after going to WDW for extended stays i am familiar with the average daily rate going down - i just never really paid attention to the single day rate because i never had to - till now! we always get the PH at WDW too. just sticker shock i guess!

how's it measure up to WDW - tough i'm sure to answer! we love WDW and AK especially - i know that's not there! would visiting DL be like going to MK in orlando? what about California Adventure?

i have way more homework to do!

The sticky at the top of this page that says Hydroguy's Tip Compilation. In there he has a link to his DLR guide for WDW vets.

I was just listening to the new podcast on DLR, I think it is Disneyland Part 1. In it he talks about going to a wild animal park. I've never been but he liked it better than AK. Of course it isn't Disney and it quite a drive. That podcast also compares DL to the MK so you should listen to it. I thought what he said was pretty right on.

For DCA, it is very easy to go back and forth between DL and DCA. It takes a minute and is a nice place to go when DL gets crowded around lunch time/afternoon.

Definitely read Hydroguy's sticky to get you started. DL is SO much more than the MK. It is packed with attractions and tons of stuff to do and see. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. CA is fun too. Also, try not to compare WDW too much to DLR. They are very different but both good in their own ways.

Probably the nicest thing about DLR is that it has different stuff than WDW. When I went to MK 5 years ago, I spent most of my time poking around Liberty Square and Adventureland (which is vastly different than DL's Adventureland). San Diego's Wild Animal Park is probably the best zoo I've ever been to, which is probably the park that a PP is referring to. It is about a 2 hour drive from DL, but since you'll probably have a car, it's not that bad of a day trip.

If you can get yourself to the University of Southern California ticket office (at USC campus, just south of downtown Los Angeles), they sell 1-day tickets for $66 and one-day park hoppers for $74. They don't check for USC ID.

great info guys! i really appreciate it - i will follow up on all recommendations -- questions on the USC tix -are your name on the tix? reason i ask is i have a friend in so cal and was thinking perhaps he could pick me up the tickets beforehand - would that be possible?

my friend in LA said he can definitely get to the USC campus - would he be able to pick up tix for me in advance? i assume there's no name on the tix and they are not for a specific date... can anyone confirm?

thanks so much!

I know nothing about those tickets but you should be careful as it's always possible for a CM to ask you for ID when using them.

thanks - but isn't that assuming there are names on the tickets? they would be my tickets anyway. i just trying to find out if someone else can purchase for me in LA as i live in chicago and if there are names on the tickets?

I beg you (as a Disneyland lover) not to attempt to compare DL to WDW. It is a false comparison.

Compare Disneyland to The Magic Kingdom.
Compare DtD to DtD.
And then look at DCA which compares to nothing.

You cannot compare WDW to DLR. Completely different.
(Could we just make that a sticky!?!?!? haha)

I have never heard of these tickets either. I would just make 12,000% sure that they do not say on them, "USC ID required" or something of the sort. They may be your tickets once you buy them, but there may be a restriction that limits who can use them.

I couldn't tell you if there are names on them or not. I live in CA but I'm 6 hrs from DL and have never seen those tix before. My warning was due to the fact that they may ask you at the gate for your college ID. I know that there have been reports of people getting So Cal tix and then being asked for ID to make sure they could use them. FYI, a Nor Cal resident (such as myself) is unable to buy or use the So Cal special tickets that Disney offers, that's why I'm warning you. It's possible you would purchase these tickets and get to the gates only to be stuck with tickets you couldn't use, you would then have to buy your tickets again at the gate.
