One Day Ticket Upgrade to Two?

Ticket question: Friends going with a one-day ticket to use before a Disney Cruise. Depending on what time they arrive, they may use the ticket on their arrival day and then want a second park day for the next day.

I've read the ticket sticky and it seems to me that they could upgrade this ticket either before they use it (outside the park) or before they leave the park that day.

Can ticket experts (Robo, etc) chime in here? Can they upgrade to the second day? And if so, how?

CMs are giving me different answers! (Shocking!)

ETA: And then I read this https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/tickets/magic-your-way-ticket-upgrade/ which makes it sound like you HAVE to have remaining admissions!

1. It does not have to be done before they leave the park.

3. It just needs to be done at some point on that day.
They could exit the park at say, 9:00PM. Decide to add a day to the ticket and do so at, say, DTD at 10:30PM...
that same day.

2. They can. Understand that there is very little "savings" by adding a second day to a one-day ticket.

4. Not true. See my #1 above.

Special note to this:

If the ticket is part of a WDW Resort Package, the guest CAN upgrade a fully-used-up ticket up to 14 days after that ticket was first used, even if on a day that is after the ticket's last asset was used.

This is because Disney issued the ticket with the guest's INFORMATION (name, address, etc.) is on file connected with the ticket number.

-------

My Speculation:

Now, with the advent of MyDisneyExperience used with FP+, MOST tickets will have a connection to MDE and a guest's INFORMATION (name, address, etc.) on file along with the ticket number.

So...
It may mean that the restriction of "must upgrade no later than on the same day that the ticket's last asset is used"
is not going to apply anymore.

Time will tell.

Thank you!! By "before they leave the park" I just meant before they leave for the day, but that answers the question in general. :)
