I know I'm asking a very broad question here...but here goes...

We have one day in DL, on Wednesday, January 21st. I'm very familiar with WDW as we've been there many times, but I have zero knowledge of DL.

I'm wondering what the best plan of attack might be? We would be there at rope drop, and spend all day. 3 adults, no kids, but young at heart :) My favourites at WDW are all the major attractions - Splash, Space, Big Thunder, but especial Tower of Terror.

Is it possible to get a decent amount done in both parks in one day? or would you stick with only one?

Check the refurbs list, I think Splash is down during that time (we are going a couple of weeks later and it is definitely down for us)

You can definitely do both but you might not get to truly enjoy the best of both parks. There is just too much to see to do it all in one day but you will still have a great time!

It's a DCA early entry day for hotel guests so I would try to get there at the regular opening to get your Fastpass for RSR and do a few attractions in DCA (Tower of Terror). Personally, I'd rather spend the majority of my time in DL so that's why I would do DCA first and do what I want there before spending the remainder of the day at DL. Just depends on what you want to do and see though.

Be sure to ride It's a Small World Holiday -- which will be open through January 25th. It's a thorough overlay inside and out, but the façade is stunning when it is aglow at night -- and it's something that WDW doesn't have!

Unfortunately, being a Wednesday, you will have shorter park hours, 10am to 8pm. But, it shouldn't be too crowded, so that will work in your favor! Touring plans says 3 out of 10. We have gone mid-week in late January before and it was GREAT! Yes, a lot will be down for refurbishment, but there will still be plenty to do. Since you are 3 adults, and if you don't mind not riding together, take advantage of the single rider lines for Indy, RSR, and California Screamin.

I have heard that the castle will be under a tarp for a long period of time this winter. It's not mentioned on the Disneyland calendar for your dates, but the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough does say under refurb. I'm not sure if that means the castle will be covered over or not.

Regardless, I would still start the day in DL. It's magical to walk under the train tracks into town square for the very first time! You can knock out a few of your favorite rides, especially Pirates, enjoy NOS, then hope over to CA if you want. If you do single rider for RSR then there's no need to rush over there first thing. I would advise doing Cars Land at dusk, when the neon lights come on, then hop on RSR at night. It sooo much fun!
