I keep reading where people have a "One day base ticket" in their reservation. Why are people only getting one day tickets?:confused3

Also, whats the benefit of booking a "One nights stay" at a resort?

To book a package, you must include at least a 1 day base ticket per person on the reservation. I had to do this for our June 4/3 deal because I plan to upgrade my ticket and DD9's ticket to DVC discounted annual passes while I am there. My mother has a nonexpiring park hopper which she has days left to use. This gives us the option to all upgrade to what we actually need when we get there. For our October free dining bounceback offer, we will do the same 1 day base again. DD and I will have our AP's to use while my DH has a 6 day nonexpiring PH to finish off and will use his one day base. DD and I will save our 1 day base tickets and use them to either upgrade to a future AP or 10 day nonexpiring PH's next year.
Hope this is a help to you!

We just got back on Saturday-- had 1 day base tickets with our Visa Free Dining package and upgraded to annual passes (we always get APs), We had a horrible time doing it-- be careful on this! We were told by several CMs at WDW that we HAD to do this before we departed-- we couldnt 'save' and do it later. We also had one CM tell us we couldnt upgrade to APs until the day we left-- that we had to upgrade to however many days tickets, then later upgrade those to APs on the day we leave or we would lose our dining plan (ours was free, but he told us we'd lose free or paid if we did it before checkout day). There was LOTS of confusion about all of this, not as easy as most of the posted segments on this board would've made me think.

That's good information to have. I was planning on upgrading my tickets to WP/More on arrival....then upgrading to the premium AP the day we finish the 4/3 deal and start our DVC stay. I know that if you have a discounted ticket, the advice is to use it first, locking in the gate value...not the purchase price. When you go to do the upgrade, the CM at Guest Services has to do an "intermediate" ticket...then take that to the AP level to make things work out properly. I am planning to do my conversion at DTD Guest Services as I am anticipating that it will take awhile. I'll ask questions before I go through the steps.

I can tell you that it does get confusing...my DM decided to upgrade her PH to a nonexpiring before we departed in 2007 to preserve 5 days and when we went back last summer, it was noted that the concierge CM at OKW had apparently screwed something up-the DTD CM let her upgrade her pass again to a 10 day and add WP's and I don't think that she should have been able to "recharge" it like that but apparently, when the CM separated it from her room key at OKW prior to departure, it came up as a new unused ticket ;)

My 1 day bases in October are not a concern....I will not be using mine or DD's until I do the upgrades in June 2010 and my DH will be using his 1 day base on a day during that trip that we are only doing 1 park.

Make sure you ask! We were told by more than one CM at WDW (three to be exact) that we could no longer "save" the 1 day to apply later/next trip; that it would 'disappear' when our dining plan did (midnight on the day of checkout). It also backdates your AP to the day of check IN even if you don't upgrade till day of checkout.

We already have tickets from last year that are nonexp. We want to book for the free DDP for September. In order to get the free DDP we have to buy a 1 day base ticket for each person in our party. We will just hold onto those tickets for our next trip and upgrade them then. (unused tickets don't expire)

(unused tickets don't expire)

That's my point. We were told by 3 CMs last week at WDW that the unused 1 day that was purchased with the package WOULD expire upon checkout--that it was only good as part of this package, not for another visit and also told that this was a *change* to previous protocol. Other tickets (non-package purchased) might not expire, but i think the point is they're going to require adding a non-expire option to the 1 day if you want to use it later.

That being said, we experienced several things that ran contrary to what we previously knew/thought was policy on this trip-- so hopefully we just had some bum CMs--but i'd certainly suggest asking several times!

Thats because CRO just put 3 new classes on the floor and they have NO idea what theyre talking about

It's what we will do.

We will reserve 12 or 13 nights (13 or 14 days in the parks) at a WDW resort.

We have 10 day park hopper tickets (pre bought).

When we buy the DDP package with our WDW resort reservation, we buy a 1 day park pass.

Our plans include 11 days in the WDW parks, 1 day at Harry Potter World, 1 day in DTD for DQ and shopping, and 1 day to depart for home (no time in the parks).
If we only have 13 days for park days then DQ and shopping will be incorporated into a WDW park day, or skip DQ.

Where were the CMs that told you this? Last year I had a CM tell me that a 1 day ticket could not be upgrade but could be refunded after checking out. She worked at the ticket booth in DTD. This year I went to get the same refund after checking out and the CM told me I could have just upgraded. Why they wouldn't want you to upgrade is beyond me. With an AP they know you are coming back and since you aren't paying for tickets you will probably spend more on food, resort and whatnots.

Seems every CM has a different story

You hit that nail on the head :lmao:

We have a 1 day pass on our Sept bounceback, because we will have AP's and you can't get the free dining without buying the one day ticket. I will save it for the next year when I re-new my AP.

We are taking advantage of the 4/3 deal and getting the 7 day base ticket and will use it once to get the full value, then upgrade to an AP and save a little money, because we will only be paying for the first 4 days, getting a 7 day comp and paying the difference for the AP :thumbsup2
