One Bedroom Suite

Just thought of one more ?. For those of you who had the Cat 3, did you get them by faxing in advance or just when booking?

The three times we've been booked in a suite (Cat. 1, 2 and 3) I have called DCL directly-no faxes. With our next cruise booked, we transferred it to a TA which is the first time we've done that (strictly for the OBC). That being said, the OBC was better than the OBC booking on board with DCL. pirate: I'm just hoping the Cat. 1 or 2 opens up for our cruise!

The time I got the cat. 3 was through TA who faxed in request to her DCL contact for potential repo. I booked the cat. 1 on board for December 2007 on our March 2006 cruise and transfered to TA.

I've been able to get a Cat. 3 twice by just calling DCL, one time was right after bookings opened though. We had a Cat. 2 booked for a cruise that we had to cancel and that one I had faxed a request for.

Well we have only cruised once before and we had booked a Cat.4 for our family of 5. We were waitlisted for a Cat. 3 and one did open up!! It wasn't a midship one but we still LOVED it! But trust everyone when they say that once you book a suite you will probably be hooked! We have a midship Cat 3 for our upcoming cruise in Feb.!! I can't wait!! :yay:

We completely understand! Although we began in a Cat 6, our second cruise in a Cat 3 is just 4 weeks away and we're really looking forward to it. We knew we were in trouble when we stepped into our first Cat 3. I'm hoping the sideways suite we have in December is even more spacious (the living room in the standard Cat 3 was filled with furniture!).

Yes, we could go back to something simpler and perhaps cruise more often (we tried that for next September's cruise but upgraded as soon as a Cat 3 became available), but with our restricted vacation time, the number of cruises per year is already limited.

Why not enjoy it!?!pixiedust:

We were able to book two Category 3 rooms for the March 9, 4-day Wonder sailing, and we just booked 3-4 weeks ago.

I think we must have gotten lucky with cancellations.

Yes, some suites (and other cabins) do become available around the time that full payment is due.

The sideways one is really nice. It's a little bit bigger, 3 verandahs lengths vs. the standard 2. I think the bedroom is still pretty much set up the same, but the living room/dining room has a lot more space.

Really glad to hear that! I'm a little concerned about possible overhead noise (reports vary depending upon the writer's sensitivity to sound), but otherwise looking forward to the extra space.

I've never noticed noise coming from up on deck 9. Both times we were in a Cat. 3 we were aft, so I don't know if it was a location issue, but in the aft we were right under Topsider's so you would think that would be pretty noisy, but never a thing that I noticed.

We have only cruised twice, once in category 3 and once in category 2. We absolutely loved the concierge part of it and all the family space we had. You get all kinds of special gifts etc and we were always excited to come in and see what the concierge had left for us. We also had a land concierge who scheduled everything for us instead of doing all the online stuff. We used in room dining a couple of times and the full dining room table was a gift as well as the walk in closets. I am not sure that even if not traveling with all the teenagers that I would want a cabin without a verandah. I loved sitting out there in the morning watching the sun come up and drinking my coffee...

I assume that would be hotel stay before the cruise concierge level. Right??

I didn't know anything about the land concierge. Is that something new?

It could be something new... I am not entirely sure. We had a land concierge who set up all of our Palo and excursions. We did not stay at a hotel prior to or after our cruise as we had family in Florida. The concierge also set up our dining and took our other requests such as bathrobes for all 6 of us etc. It was wonderful to just have her a phone call or email away for all of our questions and concerns.

We were also very lucky as her monthly trip to the ship coincided with our boarding and we were able to meet her and thank her personally.

Wow, that sounds really nice. I guess I'll have to wait till our next cruise, '09 hopefully, to find out if they're still doing that.

That would make arranging certain things like parties, etc. alot easier. You could do it ahead of time instead of on the first day. Did you still go to the concierge meet the first day?

I did. I wanted to meet our concierge team for the ship and get the beeper for the kids area. We also had our concierge set up coffee and pastries at 7am for each morning and a bucket of ice twice a day. They gave us an itenerary of the things we were scheduled for which I wanted mostly for scrapbooking. hahahahhaha

We had actually been the first group to board and had went to lunch first but they did have some nice snacks etc in there. Sandwiches and fruit and cheese and cookies etc.

We are going again in 09 as well. We want to try to get a category 1 this time. We may go in Sept instead of October this time. My oldest son turns 18 on the week of Sept 23rd.

We have made some arrangements for our upcoming cruise next month through Jaimra (land based concierge). She has been wonderful to work with. All Palo and Spa reservations were made online but she is handling some dining requests for our family as well as arranging a few surprises for my DDs. Having the phone number and email contact pre cruise has made this years planning a much better experience that our cruise last Oct.

That's a really nice addition. The onboard services have always been really nice, but to have someone on land to help too is great.

If we go in '09 we'll be trying for a Cat. 2.

That is who we used as well. When you go on the ship, at your concierge reception, ask if she happens to be on board that day and you can meet her. She is super delightful and just as warm and fun as she is on the phone. She comes on the ship every month or two just to check things out and take pictures and to connect with the concierge to keep them up to date with what we are all asking and requesting.

I would make sure to double check what jamira does for you as soon as you can with concierge. Make sure you have confirmation of all dining and excursions that she helped you with in writing. On our cruise 10/6, I was able to book the 10am CC stingray excursion for my Husband and Daugter online, but at 75 days out could not add on a friend who was not in concierge. I called Jamira, she confirmed by email that she had added our friend to the 10:00 am. When I boarded, I gave the information to Pascal and Jonathan and told them that Jamira had arranged it but I was concerned because I could not see it online (Jamira told me it was not a problem). Well our friend never gets a ticket for the excursion and when I call Concierge again they tell me it is booked. I nicely told them it was unacceptable and that I had it in writing, they had to come to get the email, before the head of excursions would make an exception. Had I not had the email - Our friend would not have been able to Join us.
Another member of our cruise meet thread, had spoken to Jamira to request a specific dining rotation. She was told it was taken care of, got on board and found that Jamira had not taken care of it. She was not able to change her plans.

So just be cautious with Jamira, while she was very nice she was not very thorough.
