One Bedroom at Copper Creek versus One Bedroom at Boulder Ridge

For those of you who own or have stayed in a one bedroom at Copper Creek and Boulder Ridge, which do you prefer and why (between the two)? Considering a stay at either resort but have never tried either one. It will just be DH and I and our son (who is 20 and will be 21 by the time we go). We will likely visit the theme parks but looking for a new resort to try. We have dined at Wilderness Lodge but never been to the pools, recreational areas, etc...I am not as familiar with what to do at/near the resort--for example, is there a basketball court?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

When are you going? It's possible the BRV renovation (which hasn't started yet) could be done and the 1 BR will have the pull down murphy sofabed. If so, BRV would be my choice.

We have a lot of flexibility but thinking around the first week of May 2023--will likely adjust the dates as needed depending on what is available for a few days.

While we don't know for sure, I would bet on the renovation being done or substantially done by then. BRV would be my choice.

ETA: I believe there is a tennis/basketball court near the end of the cabins (the cabins that are closer to Fort Wilderness).

I have a feeling the renovations will be done by May 2023 since this project has been so badly delayed.

Boulder Ridge is its own building and Copper Creek is part of the actual Wilderness Lodge hotel. That might affect your opinion? Everyone seems to have a different perspective on that.

We own at Copper Creek, but I'd still agree with the above posters that in your situation - assuming the renovations will be done by your trip - Boulder Ridge would be a better option. A murphy bed will be much more comfortable for an adult vs the pull-out sofa. We always book a 2BR at CCV so our adult son doesn't get stuck with a pull-out. As for location, while we do like that Copper Creek rooms are actually inside the lodge, Boulder Ridge is so close that it really wouldn't make a difference. It's just steps away.

The real key is the long delayed renovation at Boulder Ridge. It's way overdue and so far radio silence from DVC when it's actually going to happen. Speculation is late 2022 / early 2023, though.

I’d pick copper creek just to be able to walk into that amazing lobby every time we came back to our room
We come in through the main lobby regardless, gives an excuse to go into the Mercantile...LOL.

We're obviously somewhat biased, but my honest opinion is this: the CCV rooms are absolutely beautiful, but I just don't like the kitchen layout and having to walk through it to get to the living room (the peril of converting hotel rooms). The BRV rooms absolutely need a refurb, you'll get no argument from me on that, but permits have been pulled, so it may just come to pass through fall and winter.

I also think the views, as a whole, are better from BRV. The BRV building is parallel to the lake, so you have almost a 50/50 chance of a fabulous lake view. Even the rooms facing away from the lake are mostly forested areas and very relaxing. The CCV wing is perpendicular to the lake, so only a handful of rooms have a full lake view. The majority of CCV rooms look out onto the Copper Creek pool (and across to the other hotel wing), or look out over the Boulder Ridge pool and a big broad walkway. It's almost identical to the alignment of the DVC rooms at VGC.

We own at both, but have only stayed at cc cabins there. They were spectacular. We own more points at BRV and again, without staying at cc studios, one or two bedrooms yet, would normally prefer BR, if, that is they were habitable. Right now that question is at best a coin flip. As for the main lobby which is indeed just wonderful, if I’m at BR I can walk through the main lobby and then the BR lobby which is also wonderful. I could camp out at the Inglenook. The renovation variable is indeed the wild card!

I have a one bedroom booked at BRV in Oct with a waitlist for a one bedroom at Copper Creek for the same time. I am fine with either one, but a refurbished one bedroom at BRV would be great.

Thank you ALL so much! This is really helpful--I will have to keep reading these boards to see if the refurb for BR comes up and go from there. Much appreciated.

CCV units are like the AK-J value units, small redone hotel rooms About 344 sq Ft. And should be priced like the value units at AK-J.
The 1 and 2 BR units are really smaller at CCV.

Oh, I didn't know this! Is the one bedroom at CCV smaller than the one bedroom at Bay Lake?

Yes, BLT 803 sq ft, CCV 675 sq ft.

And the BTL 1 BR has 2 full bathrooms. CCV just 1. but it is split with one side Toilet, shower, sink, side 2 has bubble tub and sink, no toilet. Allows 2 to get ready at the same time.

You guys are the best! This is super helpful and I LOVE that chart...I need to print it out as reference! LOL!! This helps me to think about room choice as we do like the bigger rooms. Thanks again.

I prefer the larger living room area in BR. I do love CC too, but that Murphy bed will be a game changer.

Nothing wrong with CC... Its been said before about other resorts but in the case more accurate. You can very easily sit on the patio without having to get up to get yourself a beer, stick your arm in open the refrigerator and enjoy.
I love CC and BR I will take either for the record. Hard choice between the Main lobby and the iron spike room for me.
