Once upon a time...

We are at VB now for 2 1/2 week stay. We just wanted to get out of the cold north and had points to spend from cancelled family stay at WDW. We own at HH but figured it was warmer here and so isolated we would be more comfortable about Covid. So far, so good. We walk 5-6 miles a day on A1A, the beach or the jungle trail. Stopped at grocery on the way in, cook and eat in room. I sat out by the pool a couple of afternoons and felt like people were observing distances. Very relaxing.

Oh man, right there too. Been feeling genuinely morose lately. Counting down to July 18th, hoping and praying that life is more back to “normal” by then.

I am hoping the restrictions will be considerably relaxed by the summer, but "life back to normal" will likely take longer.

Oh, if I have to just sit in my hotel room for the entire week it will still be a breath of fresh air! I don’t count on operations being back to normal (masks, social distancing, fireworks/parades) but my parents and in-laws should be vaccinated by then, even if my wife and I are not, and that’ll be a huge load off!

I think worrying about my parents health and safety has been the most stressful snd mentally exhausting part of the pandemic. I’m with you on that being a big weight off!

I keep making and canceling my DVC trips thinking maybe by X month things will be better/normal... nope.

Me too!

We started with Thanksgiving 2020, cancelled.

Moved to January 2021, cancelled.

Then made reservations for March and May 2021 (shorter trips).

I just cancelled my March reservation.

Grabbed a tower studio at Riviera for August anniversary (last ditch effort to use points - would never normally go in August and never done Disney without kids but they wouldn't be able to do August).

Started booking with my next UY: 11 mo "spec" reservations as I call them...

Thanksgiving.

Week leading into Christmas.

Next up when window opens: January 2022.

Yesterday, one of my D's came home from work with a potential covid exposure. So, now I'm thinking if we were to actually get Covid right now, we'd go in March. So, I'm sorry I dumped that one as I am looking at availability.

This doesn't include the 100(?) times I've switched rooms for each of these stays Most are booked as split stays or short trips now, so I keep switching resorts as availability changes.

It's like a hobby now. But, in reality, I fully expect to deposit my 2019 banked points into RCI around July when I realize it's all a bust.

We were at MK fornthe last night b4 they closed...lost the next week of vacation as we drove home next morning. Been itching since. Use to go twice a year..now looking like once in 2years...uggh

I agree that it’s like a “hobby” changing my plans and booking/stalking new rooms and dates. I think all my friends, family, and coworkers are getting pretty tired of me saying “so when do you think this will all be over?”. No one understands the pressure of trying to book a Disney DVC trip in the middle of a pandemic with banking issues, cancelation rules, and dwindling room availability! It’s making me go a bit nutty to be honest!

And I´m cancelling a March trip today, but plan to go in Dec, a long way off. I sure hope by then we don´t have to wear masks.

I too am going to cancel our March trip today. We have one planned for October. Ugh! It’s just so depressing. I want to go back so bad. After watching current videos, I just don’t want to wait 20-40 minutes just to get into the Mexico pavilion. Or wait to get into a store, mobile order and not be able to stroll around and have a snack. 😕

For me it is a matter of "when will we be vaccinated?". Since we will be last on the list, I truly have no idea, but I'm guessing not before summertime. We don't travel June-Sept and our UY is October. So, realistically, I know we won't be using our banked 2019 points in WDW.

I'll gladly wear a mask and will be sad to be missing fireworks and such, but I'd accepted all that. Just wish we could get a trip in sometime soon. I'll hold onto the May dates I have (just in case), but I don't think it's going to happen. And then if I'm being honest, I know I'll be pissed because there will still be no AP available. I really thought that would come back this year when they brought back hopping. Grrr.

The additional struggle with our "normal" vacation cycle is that one kid has just started college and one just graduated. so their lives are in flux and it is hard to plan 11 months out for now. If things are "back to normal", I assume that next fall / winter there won't be much flexibility with resorts and dates, so...... I feel like we're just kind of screwed!

I'm actually worried we will be in some weird "in-between" stage in the Fall and it will be much worse. Some people will be vaccinated and travelling freely (increasing crowds) but the virus will be "still around" enough to keep masks and distancing rules in place.

Masks and certain capacity measures (park reservations, mobile order reliance, etc...) will likely be the “norm” at WDW through the end of the year at least.

I’m a bit more optimistic in that I think that come late spring (April or May), vaccine availability will be sizable enough that even “lower priority” people (so basically anyone above 18) will be able to register for vaccination appointments. I know the initial rollout has been rough but the recent increase in pacing is encouraging.

With that in mind, I think that the summer will be when we first start to see many “normal” offerings return, such as fireworks, indoor shows, and more hotels and restaurants. Certainly many hotels, restaurants, and shops will still be unavailable but I think we’ll see many more offerings available than what we see at WDW now.

there was someone that needed a DVC vacation. It was me. The end.

LOL!! This made me giggle. Im right there with you. Last years trip canceled. This one is May, and coming quickly. Hoping it happens...11 nights. Ugh....I NEED this vacation so badly.
