Our Day Plan: Meet up at Blizzard Beach (BB); check in to All-Star Music near the rest of the group

Our Meal Plan: Lunch: Counter service at Blizzard Beach
Dinner: Chef Mickey’s with PS at 7:00pm

Our Weather Today: Sunny and Hot! (Flurries back home)

Originally this day was scheduled to be our DisneyQuest day, but it pays to be flexible. Uncle T and I woke up to what promised to be a hot and steamy day-our new digital camera’s lens even steamed up when we stepped from our room at Port Orleans French Quarter to eat breakfast for the last time at Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory. Within five minutes of calling for luggage transfer to All-Star Music, there was a porter knocking on our door. After checking out, we took one last leisurely stroll around the grounds to the bus stop, beach towels and water camera in hand.

It was then that it hit me…we were beginning our family trip today! Strange to think that my family has been here in the World and we haven’t even seen them yet! Uncle T and I were both very excited and ready to swim the day away. It was supposed to hit 90 degrees today! A great day for a water park.

We arrived right before Blizzard Beach (BB) opened at 10am and waited eagerly in front of the gates trying to find our “crew”. Finally we caught a glimpse! After that, it was a mess of hugs and laughter with everyone trying to talk at once. Through the gates we went.

Our first line of business was staking out the “home front” where we could put all our stuff. We found a private oasis near the wave pool and after liberally applying sunscreen all around, decided to start off the day floating on the lazy river. (GM went to take all the valuables to the locker with plans to meet up with us somewhere on the river. Needless to say, this didn’t happen, and it took some time to meet up again. Make sure you have a definite meeting spot at water parks when you split up!)

“Harry” was begging to ride Summit Plummit and JP and Uncle T hesitantly agreed to go along. We lesser fools yelled our encouragement to them before they disappeared and then proceeded to ride on the Slush Gusher-fast and a good precursor to Summit Plummit! From then on, the day became a blur of squishy toes, lugging tubes and big splashes. Like our last trip, we loved riding Teamboat Springs-wish they could make an eight-man tube!!-lots of family fun! Runoff Rapids were great too, but we didn’t like having to lug our tubes up all those stairs. Whew! Our favorite ride, though, was racing on the Toboggan Racers. This slide was excellent for our large group because all eight of us could race at the same time. I’m proud to report that I won with a “come from behind” finish!

We lunched at Lottawatta Lodge (basic fast food) and ate salty fries and cheeseburgers rubbing dripping shoulders and draped in beach towel attire. Everyone was still talking “up a storm” with questions and memories from last trip and trying to get each other up to date on what we had already done. (And I wonder why no one else was sitting next to our family!!)

We stayed until 4pm and then slowly pulled ourselves away from the park. Uncle T and I checked in back at All-Star Music and found, to our delight, that we were only a few rooms down from the rest of the group. We took our complimentary Halloween balloons to our room and unpacked. We now had three rooms and would split up the following way: JP and Jack; GM, Ariel and Harry; and Uncle T, Princess M and I. This allowed us to have our “own” space and our “own” child. It was a good setup. The rooms at All-Star Music can be pretty small with four people in them, and we needed the extra bathroom space as well.

Everyone piled into our room (Calypso 1512) for a “debriefing” after unpacking for us and more swimming for everyone else. Now was the time that we handed out our matching T-shirts. Ariel and GM has been bargain shopping for many months and got all of our T’s for $3-$5/each. I had laminated daily itineraries, and each room got a schedule for the week that had which T-shirt to wear, where we were headed that day, where and when meals and bedtimes were, etc. Every park day we had preplanned that each adult group (GM; JP and Ariel; and Uncle T and I) would get a “child for the day”. We devised this system last birthday trip in 2000, and it had worked extremely well. Not only would each prince or princess get to spend one-on-one time with each adult, but it was much easier figuring out who was riding with whom and where in general everyone was.

Soon it was time to head to our PS at Chef Mickey’s. We had a brief wait for our PS time and spent some of it with Goofy and Donald at the front of the restaurant getting our first character pics and autographs. After the traditional family photo, we were seated at a big round table right in the middle of the action. Woo Hoo! Grab your plate and swing your date! Okay, okay…this wasn’t the Hoop-de-Doo Revue, but the atmosphere sure was energized! The food was great-GM even made a cupcake for dessert!-but the characters were even better! We took plenty of pictures and, even now, I have the urge to twirl my napkin and sing “Party!”any time I’m at the dinner table.

Tips for the day:
1. Get to Blizzard Beach early! Make sure you ride the slides early as well and save the wave pool and the lazy river for when crowds peak!
2. Don’t be afraid to change your plans especially those weather-based! Have a plan but be flexible with that plan.
3. Be forewarned that characters at Chef Mickey’s do NOT pose for pictures with other characters!

Tomorrow will be our first family day in the park;
We are as light as a feather and as happy as a lark!
We can hardly sleep with dreams of splishing on Splash
And scoring on Buzz is always a blast!
We’ve made it this far…just one more night, you know;
We’ll be having fun in a flash…close your eyes and let’s go!
