Is there any sort of leeway for the onboard booking placeholder? I'm looking at the 2018 dates, and one of the options I want sets sail the day after my placeholder expires. Ugh. :( Does DCL offer any sort of leeway? Reduction of benefits, but still offer SOME benefits, or it's just gone, bye bye, can't use it?

Have you gotten a letter from DCL specifying the date you must start your cruise by? If not, use this calculator to figure out the date. Most people report that their "must start by" date is 24 months and one day from when they booked onboard.

Both the DCL blog and the advertisement that I got from DCL (which oddly, is in DH's name, even though I'm the one that booked it and was the lead in our last cruise) says exactly 24 mos to the date I booked it. I wish it was 24 mos +1 day. That would make things MUCH easier.

In fact, the advertisement I got from DCL is misleading. It says, "REMINDER: You must complete your Travel for your on-hold booking." It doesn't say you must start it. It says you must complete it.

Yeah, they seem to be using up old information fliers. Time was the cruise did have to be completed by the 24 months, but that changed. But, DCL doesn't seem to have made the transition.

They need to get on updating their systems, (among other things, but I digress :) ) because it was printed on the address label, so it looks like current info.

I think that when they update/change things, they've forgotten where the "old" information has been put and just don't get everything updated. Until enough people complain about it. They they tend to do a specific fix, not a mass one.

I was also told that we had to have completed our cruise prior to the 24 month mark. Would have made a difference as to what cruise we booked! Too late to change now though.
