I know there have been a million threads about this but someone, please explain this to me....

If I am onboard and book a $10,000 room, I get $200 onboard credit and $1,000 off (10%) right?

So, if I get home and DU has the same room for $9700, do I just get to keep the $200 and not the 10% off,, making the Disney price better right?

I know this might seem like a stupid question but we are about to leave for our first cruise in a week and want to make sure I know all the "tricks" for when we re-book onboard...

THANKS!!! :earsboy:

You are correct. The reason for transferring to a TA when you get home is to keep the $200 credit and get the TA's price (which is almost always better). You can't do the DU price, and then take 10% off of it.

I think some TA's will still honor the DCl discounts, but not positive. Some may and some may not. But from everything I have seen or read...book onboard (because of the discounts DCL gives you-and you won't get them anywhere else) and if you find a better deal you can have the reservation transferred to a TA. DCL will even ask you if you want it under your TA's name. There was a post with a lot of info pertaining to your question..search this forum for booking or booking questions.

Oh yes this is what we did in October 2003. We booked our next cruise for October 2004 and received the 10% off and the onboard credit of $200. We got home out TA emailed to check on us and I told her what I had done. She said let her look into it and she might can save us some money if she took over the booking. We saved another $100 or so. I was thrilled.

Hi -

We are a little more than 3 months out before our Cruise in Oct 05 and we were thinking about rebooking while onboard - when you do this is the Full $500.00 deposit due at the time of rebooking onboard or can we do a partial ($250.00) and then sending in more $ in a month or so????????

Has anyone does this, or know about this procedure???????

Thanks guys - you are all the best!!

If you are going to book a 7 day cruise the deposit amount is $250 pp.

The discounts are generally a rebate to you of part of their commission.

So, if the cruise fare is $5000, they get $500. They give you $100 of the $500.

Remember - it is 10% off the cruise price (not including taxes, port charges, air fare, insurance, transfers and other charges). So, the total price may be $5500 but the cruise fare was only $5000, the 10% would only be off the $5000 and not $5500.

I know its $250.00 pp, but when you rebook onboard, do they need that full deposit or can you give them half onboard and send in the other half say a month later????

Thanks! :sunny:

No, unfortunately not. You need to have the 250$ for each person booked. If you decide later on to add, it will be at the going rate at that time, and of course, if children are involved, you "could" run the risk of having full capacity...

You can keep the onboard offer and get the Dreams rebate applied. Where it gets confusing is if you're looking at a Group (discounted) rate. Disney will not combine group discounts with shipboard booking offers.

In that case, just do the math and see which deal is better. Either way, you'll be saving money. :flower:

When booking on board remember that the 10% discount does not apply to the 10-day Holiday cruise (December 2006)...we made that mistake on the May Repo cruise...I was assured by Danielle that the price we were getting was 10% off but when I got home I checked the prices on the website and we only saved $113...so I called DCL...that's when I found out the 10% only applies to 7 day sailings!!!!

I did find out that I can change my reservation to another cruise (7 day) and they will honour the 10% discount...

I am sailing West Coast in July/Aug 2005 and I am so tempted to rebook on board. I would rather do another West Coast because we live near the West Coast and flying across country with four kids is expensive and not fun. I'm hoping they announce some kind of West Coast sailings for 2007, but that announcement is not likely to be made before my next cruise. If I book *something* onboard, would I be able to transfer the discount to a later (yet unannounced) cruise in 2007...or even 2008? If the west coast thing doesn't happen, I could always cancel altogether...but I would probaby decide to just do it anyway.

Thanks,
Lara

Yes :)

Does the 10% and $200 ship credit also apply to the land/sea? What is the deposit on this $200 or $250?
TIA

I'm pretty sure it's only on the 7 nt cruise. From what I've read, I don't think you can book the land/sea on the ship, but I've never been on the ship so I could be wrong.

that's exactly what i'm planning on doing!! actually, we did that, on our first cruise (mar 2004)...rebooked for some random date (as far back as possible), cuz there was talk about the magic coming to the west coast (schedule didn't come out for that yet, wasn't "announced") and when it finally did, we switched the date for our upcoming cruise! and we were able to keep our discounts & shipboard credit! so i know it's possible! and i got the ok from DH that we can rebook on board again! yay!!!!! good luck! :flower:
