Onboard Booking for a family member

I’ve seen several threads addressing the particulars of onboard bookings and their benefits, but I have a logistical question.

I’m sailing later this year with my family, and my sister is planning to take her family on their first Disney cruise. I always book a placeholder onboard for myself, and she would like me to book a second stateroom placeholder for her family. My question is - can I put my own name on one stateroom, and her name on the other one? Or do I need to put myself/my husband, and then we all just shuffle to the appropriate rooms once we’re onboard the ship?

In addition, would she be able to manage her own separate reservation, or would they both be on one reservation number? I don’t mind managing her reservation (and she’d probably appreciate the help, as a first timer) but I’d like to know what to expect.

Lastly, if we book two staterooms and she changes her mind, can I refund her stateroom deposit, without affecting my own?

Thanks in advance!

It’ll only work if you are sailing together on the same cruise. If you are not you won’t be able to book an independent separate one outside of your placeholder.

If you are cruising together on the same cruise then you can make it in her name and then she’ll be able to control the reservation.

I did the same for my mom/sisters who will be joining us on our next cruise. The only ‘bad’ part is they are all new vs silver for my room but it wasn’t worth fracturing everyone

Awesome! We’d be sailing on the same cruise, of course. I don’t think that they’ll be concerned about their first time status for booking, I was just hoping that we’d be able to separately control our own reservations and bookings. Thank you! :sunny:

We have done this before, but if we made a reservation for someone who wasn't on the cruise, they didn't get the benefits. What we did was put me in one room, DH in the other and put all of the family in the room with DH and the other adult in my room with our kids. Then if they canceled, you just do a name change for your room and cancel the other room.

If you are on a cruise, and book two rooms, one for you and your husband, and one for friends/family (who are not on the cruise), BOTH reservations get the perks, as long as both reservations are on the SAME future cruise.

Well that would have been handy to know. They told us that one of our names had to be on both reservations.

I will say that the OBB agents are not always fluent in the rules. Sometimes they say that the current cruiser needs to be on the future resize and other times, they don't. It is frustrating but you have to go with whatever the OBB agent says.

I've done this bunch of times. You can put your name in one stateroom and your sister on the other one. If there's a chance your sister might cancel and you'll bring another family member or friend to use the other stateroom to use the placeholder, it would be wise to put the other stateroom in your husband's name and just shuffle around. The lead name in the reservation cannot be changed.

She can manage her own reservation even if you link both reservations. If you link it, you'll be able to manage both but she can still log in and manage hers. There would be two different reservation numbers.

If she changes her mind, she can refund the stateroom deposit if it's within the cancellation period. It will not affect your reservation.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your cruise!
