We are booked in a cat 8D family cabin. Disney sent us a offer for $65.00 to upgrade to a Cat 5A which is a verandah, but not a family cabin which we don't need the space, I just thought it would be nice to have a large room. Can anyone offer their opinions on what I should do?
This on the Disney Dream 4 night sailing.

We have never sailed without a verandah. It opens up the room to seem less restricted/small, and is also a wonderful place to just relax and read, have a snack or drink, or just look out over the water. TOTALLY DO IT!!! :thumbsup2

We prefer the room space in cat 8s. I wouldn't upgrade for that reason. The cat 5 will have half the desk storage space for clothing and the room will be about 4 feet shorter.

We definitely would do it. Having a verandah is great in my opinion! :goodvibes

Is it $65/night or just $65? Seems to me that processing the payment of $65 would cost more than a free upgrade.

Op - I think it depends on what is more important to you. We have always sailed in a cat 8 on the Dream and Fantasy and we have had either 2 or 3 in the cabin. I love the space and the round tub. I am one that doesn't value the verandah and don't use it much when I do have one. If you have always wanted a verandah, go for it. If you want the extra space, save the $65.

If you don't care, I'd tell DCL that I'd move for free if it was an issue for them capacity-wise otherwise decline.

Price it out first. Sometimes these are offered but are no real savings if it's a 3n and they present it as a per night upgrade.

It is $65.00 for the 4 nights. The cruise isn't fully booked up, I noticed that they have a balcony guarantee now for less than what we paid not too much though, but it says for new bookings only. I am a little bummed that they would even charge considering the price is lower with a guarantee.

You know, if that's the case and you don't care too much either way, why not try to contact them and say you'll upgrade if they need the space but you would like them to honor the currently listed price. It may not work at all, it may work out to a free upgrade but not the overall cheaper price, or who knows maybe they'll agree. If you're not unhappy with what you have now, what's to lose? Worse case, you'll stay where you are for what you paid.

You can't book the VGT now since it is for new bookings only, but this would also be a reason not to take the upgrade IMO.

The fact that they are selling the room they want you to pay even more for as a VGT at a much lower rate. Like I said before though, I prefer the larger room to a verandah. We have been on 10 cruises, 3 with verandahs. First was bc of DCL upgrade, second was kids free deal and the last was a price glitch we booked in the first hour on opening day before it was fixed. I have booked our next two cruises in cat 8s because that extra space makes a difference to my family. We don't use the verandah much and wouldn't miss it.

I got the same deal for $64. I called today and made the switch. Funny thing is the rep was not able to process it and they had to get someone else to make the transaction happen. She seemed surprised by the deal. I was worried on the room size also but had never do a veranda. So we moved from 6th to the 10th floor.

So is ours 12/8. I am still undecided as the weather actually can be cool in December, if that's the case we probably wouldn't use it that much and a larger room would be nice. They said I could think about it. Our agent also had to be transferred around to find out about it.

Myself and MIL with my two kids are booked on that same cruise (12/8) and I received an offer of moving from a 5D to a 4A for only $59. I don't know if I need the room either but was surprised to get the e-mail non-the-less. I haven't made up my mind, I kind of like the idea of being on deck 6 and mid ship. However, an extra bed may make sleeping arrangements easier!

I figured this sailing wasn't filling up since I got early PAT and main dinning right away and only booked this trip in August.
