Disney Holiday Magic with Samantha Brown! Others have posted here that the Fort will be shown. :goodvibes

My only regret is that they didn't show Site 1639. The people at the end of the 700 loop and the people at the entrance of 300 are both millionaires (we know both of these families) and can easily afford their decorations. The people on 1639 are just average Joe's like the rest of us - and I thought their decorations were the most creative of all!

name dropper.....

Heck, 301's MH is worth more than my house by 3x.

This show was great! Samantha Brown was hobnobbing at the Fort!

She stopped by the 700 loop, and got a golf cart ride from the folks on the end of the loop over to site 301- and the folks there got interviewed.

They showed this site on the 700 loop:

I really like their Christmas tree- it is camping themed. I think that the big red tube is a sewer hose! Too Funny!

And, of course, site #301:

They already played the show twice, and it will probably be replayed several more times between now and Christmas.

:santa:

Great pictures :thumbsup2 As long as I've been going to the fort I never got the site I requested. I did get in the loop but never the site. The crew in the 301 site always gets the same site. Hummm I think money talks.

They're showing it again on Friday night. I thought it was pretty well done but I wish they'd shown more of the fort.

Gatordad - You don't even want to know how much it cost!! The interior is custom designed with Mickey Mouse custom made wall tile & marble flooring with Mickey Head inserts, custom made MM drawer pulls, glass beveled shower door with a sandblasted Mickey. It's fricken unbelievable! Now, this coach is 2 years old, so they are in the middle of having a new one built for next season!

In all honesty, Jay Howard (owner), is a true "rags to riches" story. He was abandoned at birth, grew up in an orphanage til age 12, adopted by a guy who owned a heating oil company & basically enslaved Jay & had him repairing all the trucks. Jay ran away when he was 16 or 17 and went to work repairing trucks for another company & saved enough money to buy out his adopted father's business when he was around 25!! He then proceeded to buy out small heating oil companies in the New England region (my great-uncle's included) & has become a hugh business success! All this on a 6th grade education. His wife, Donna, does all the book-keeping end of the business & works while at FtW.

They are the most genuine people you could ever meet, and are generous to a fault! Donna was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago and it has progressed to stage 4. Understandably, Jay gives her anything and everything she wants. (Although she wants nothing more than to be able to winter at FtW.)

Just thought I'd let you know!

I saw it and it was pretty good. I have it on TIVO so I can watch it again and again. The segment on FW was actually more than I thought they'd do.

Samantha needs to come down and cover the Halloween decorations in October. I don't decorate, but if she stopped by FWGuy would mix her a Kungaloosh. I think she's pretty easy on the eyes.

Yeah, but she's no Rhonda!

OOPS, maybe I haven't been here long enough for this post, is there a time limit before someone can start teasing other disers??

Well I am sure that this isn't the last board I get banned from :lmao:

Debbie-

Thank you for this information! I always wondered what the story was on these folks. On the show last night, they said they had been coming to the Fort since 1981. In all of my visits to the Fort over the past 10+ years during the winter and spring, they have been there. They used to have two sites on the 1400 loop for many years, and then moved over to 301 a few years back.

I knew a person who owned a summer home in Mass. I could not believe what they spent on heating oil just to keep the pipes from bursting in the winter. No wonder Jay is so rich!

I just had to tell you all the both of my kids (DS14 and DD10) have insisted a tour of Fort Wilderness to see the Christmas decorations on our upcomming trip!

They loved seeing Fort Wilderness on the special last night! It was very sweet. :goodvibes

We are coming to see the Hoop Dee Do Review on Jan. 1, 2008 and wanted to walk around after that. Should we rent a golf cart to tour or can we walk around? How much walking would it be? Do they rent carts after dark?

TIA!

That's a great story...... I shall have to say hello if I ever go back.

The two camping loops which were featured on the special are not a far walk from Pioneer Hall, the site of the HDDR. If you want to see the decorations featured on the special, head for the 700 loop, and then walk over to the 300 loop. You can see the location on the map posted on the sticky above.

The Bike Barn closes at 6 pm (that is where you would rent a cart). They only rent carts by the day, so you would have to pick up the cart by 6 and pay approx. $50 to rent the cart, and then return it via night drop. I wouldn't be surprised if the carts were sold out on Jan. 1.

You might want to check on a hay ride. They depart from right outside Pioneer Hall. They usually take folks around some of the better decorated camping loops.

Also, don't know what seating you will have for the HDDR, but remember that you can see the Electric Water Pageant from the Ft. Wilderness Beach every night at 9:45, and the MK fireworks as well (the time varies, so you will have to check on that).

Enjoy!

Attention Gentlemen!

There are some interesting comments being made on another thread about this show, and about Ms. Brown's physique. I am now going to have to watch this show again to see what I missed :happytv: I was just interested in the Fort stuff, and I apparently missed something ;)

I first met them in 2000 when they were still on the 1400 loop. Donna wanted to "relocate" to site 301 so she could set up more decorations, be more visible & spread more Christmas cheer!!! Up until this year, she would host a HUGE Thanksgiving Feast at their site & did most of the cooking herself (for about 50-75 people). Unfortunately, she is just too ill to do this anymore. The truly sad thing is that she is only in her mid 50's and could have had a lot more years ahead of her. All the money in the world is not going to cure her from cancer.:sad2:

TCD - During one of the segments, Samantha was wearing a "stretchy" shirt with a poinsettia emblazened on the front. I really think it created an optical illusion, which most men - my DH included, would be fascinated with! (LOL). The other segments, in which she was donned in other outfits, did not make her look "busty", trust-me!! :lmao:
