We are going on a Disney Wonder Cruise through Make-A-Wish in September. :cool1: We have read numerous DIS threads and the ones on the dress code seem to be one of the most highly debatable. :hyper2: Is it really that important? Or can we just wear jeans and t-shirts? :confused3 We are financially strapped due to medical bills and do not have the money to buy "cruise" clothes. Will we will really be looked down upon? :guilty: On that note, if any of you have any extra clothes that you would be willing to donate to us, it would be greatly appreciated. :worship: :love1: :flower3:

Personally, I do not understand the HUGE debating that goes on over dress code. You will probably wear about the same thing everyday out on deck, or at the pool. If your clothes are neat and unwrinkled at dinner, with the exception of shorts, you will be fine. To tell you the truth, I didn't really even notice what anyone else was wearing.

If you feel underdressed on formal night (if there is one on the wonder) or semi-formal night, you can always eat dinner at the buffet.

Have a good time, and don't let what you wear determine how much fun you all have..... It actually sounds silly when you hear it like that, huh?

This thread should give you a pretty good idea although it sounds as if you probably read it already....

I don't know how people can wear jeans anywhere on the ship, just way to hot for me. IMO T-shirts are a no, but a collared-shirt is fine. I am probably one of the few that think dress shorts would be fine, but I am in the minority on that one.....

This will be an interesting thread... get the snacks ready ;)

Jennay, the dress code is a suggestion - not a law.

The 4 day is much more casual than the 7 day.

Your family will be just fine in jeans & tees.

The majority of the people you will be cruising with aren't reading these boards. No offense to people that like to dress up here, but I definitely felt misled (and a little stressed) about the possibility of being underdressed and brought way too many clothes to cover our bases. My doubts were all in vain. We chose to wear our casual outfits and we were fine.

Have a great time on your cruise.

I dress up for dinner and am casual all the rest of the time onboard. But I never look down on others..it's your vacation, so do whatever you want and don't worry about what others think. :sunny:

Thank you for your quick responses. I'm slowly feeling a weight being lifted off my shoulders. It can be very overwhelming reading these threads, especially the highly debatable ones. I guess I'm just trying to put a different perspective on the dress code. I don't want to be laughed at (as mentioned in other threads) because I don't have the proper "cruise" attire. We would have no problem wearing the proper clothes, if we had them. I understand that many of the people on the cruise may have the money to purchase or may already have the "suggested" attire, but some do not. This is a very special and well-needed vacation for my family and me.

I am glad to see this thread...I also like the way it is going...So far, so good..BUt I have my doritos handy :rotfl2:

To the Op:

Please go without worry about how you look, or what you wear, I, along with others do not care what one wears, and do not notice, so long as you are clean...

Enjoy the cruise, I am sure You MORE than deserve it....Go, relax, and have fun....

Prayers for your family.. :grouphug:

When we were on the Wonder, dh & ds each brought 1 pair of khaki pants. They simply wore them for dinner and then changed out of them. You can dress them up a bit for the 1 "fancier" dinner. DH can wear a basic dress shirt and tie. Your boys are young enough that even just a nice shirt will do. They do not need to wear a dress shirt, let alone a tie. Tennis shoes for them is even ok.

Ok, here was my oops on our 1st Wonder, 3 night.

My dh basically wears khaki shorts all summer, so he has many. I also packed a long pair of khaki pants for the "fancy" night. We get on the ship and I start unpacking. I searched and I searched for those pants. It was our anniversary and we were to celebrate that night at Tritons.

I could not find the pants. So we had 2 choices, go to the shop and buy a pair for $80 :earseek: or have him wear his shorts and tennis shoes with a polo. Well, we opted for the 2nd!!!

Not one single person turned a head or blinked an eye.

However, the story does not end here. As I was re-packing the last night about 10, I put his clean shorts in the suitcase, and just at that moment
I noticed that I had brought the pants. I had just mistaken them for shorts.

But the point of the story, I wouldn't worry about it too much. You have much more important things to deal with at this time.

Enjoy the trip!!!!

Glad this thread is going well because I already ate my popcorn for the night!

I think you will have a great time and shouldn't be stressed out over this. I haven't been on the Wonder, but heard that it is more casual. On another note, my DH has found some very nice (almost new) button up shirts at a local thrift store and maybe you have one in your area that might have some. I was stressing over the fact that we didn't have tuxes for the guys and a formal dress for me, but they were fine in suits and me in a basic black dress.

Have a great family vacation!
