On the dining plan, adding alcoholic drinks or extra items to meal?

Will servers give us a hard time for this? I hope not. How exactly does this work? We don't plan on going off-menu but in the event one of our kids wants something in addition to their meal, I'd like to know what to expect.

Also, dh and I will most certainly be ordering drinks with our meals.

Any tips for making this run smoothly?

We've done this often, usually adding wine to our dinners. It's very easy. We tell our server up front that we're on the DDP and we also want to pay OOP for the wine. At the end of the meal, the server brings two recipts, one for the DDP, for which we provide our Key to the World and the second for the drinks, which we pay cash or with a CC. No problem at all.

And you pay gratuity on the second receipt, right? I'd hate for the server to not get more when we order more, kwim?

Through the end of 2007, your receipt for the wine/added items would include an automatic 18% gratuity.

We don't yet know how/if this will change for 2008, given that the Guest will be responsible for the tip even on DDP items.
