We booked GC through Costco for the first week (ish) if December. I am going to pay it off this week with a Disney gift card.

What happens if the price drops with a sale before we go? I heard I can't get it lowered if I've booked through Costco. If I have to cancel the booking and rebook will they just put it back on the gift cards? It is a package with tickets and room.

I'm fine with the difference on a gift card if we are able to find a lower price on Costco and they will allow us to rebook. I just don't want to pay in full if that will make things more difficult later.

I'm interested in this as well. We booked the package through Disney and it will be paid off in the next couple weeks via GC. I'm hoping for an October sale, so in the event that happens I hope it will be refunded but am not sure how it's done if it was on a gift card (or multiple since each GC has a $1,000 limit).

I paid for our full vacation, which was initially booked through Costco. When a sale was announced, I called and Disney rebooked the vacation and refunded my overpaid portion. I don't know if everyone has this experience, but it was far easier than I imagined it would be!

I'm so sorry, I just saw the gift card distinction! 🙈 I hope someone can speak to that for you.

If paying via gift card...what is the rush to pay it off now?..load up your gift cards and wait til the week before to pay the hotel bill. If the rate drops, burn the balance off in the parks for your trip.
That's a good idea! I hate leaving a balance hanging, I guess I can just leave the money in savings until I need to pay it off and buy my gift cards then. It would stress me out to have $4000 in gift cards just hanging out at home.

Yes I have booked with costco and paid with gift cards. They will book your new reservation and transfer the funds that you already paid to the new reservation. ALWAYS keep the gift card(s) you paid with in case they need to refund. I do think any change has to be done before a certain time before the date of arrival.

I now just book room only through DL where i can make changes or cancel upto 5 days before. I stopped booking through Costco when they stopped giving us free character dining vouchers.

Oh perfect. So if a better rate does come out I can just have them rebook at the new rate? Do I call to do this or online?

You always have to call. I would just make sure how late you are able to make changes. I know with packages it is sometimes 30 days.

I think it is 30 days. I looked at historical dates when the drop discounts for Christmastime and I see many years it was September 12th. It would be so cool to save them money but I also will be happy just to be onsite and pay full price. We'll just take the difference and spend more anyway. I am such a sucker when it comes to saying yes at DL.
