On site or save the $$? Another which hotel...

Of the 3 on site hotels the Grand is my least favorite... the lobby is fantastic and anyone can enjoy that; however the rooms are dark, and seem small. I love DLH and PP is fun too.

KalamityJane,

I have terrible trouble deciding on hotels. It's crazy I do so much research and still cannot make up my mind.

We have booked GCH and Park Vue Inn, but I am also considering the other DL hotels too.

I think I need to stop reading reviews and threads about hotels on this forum! :hyper:

viaggiamo - I totally know what you mean! I love to pinch a penny but at the same time don't mind spending more for quality - if I could only be assured of that!

Glad you're going to stay at least some days on-site!

I don't know which on-site hotel's the best, but the DIS podcast did choose the DLH! For your first on-site stay I don't imagine you can go wrong staying there. Then again, all the hotels are nice.

Some of the rooms at the GCH can be quite far from the hotel exit, so if you're unlucky you could end up with a surprisingly long walk. You can always request a closer room, and depending on how you look at 19 weeks, you might or might not score a bit of sympathy with the staff to help you get one. ;)

The Paradise Pier elevators can be a pain, but I think you can have your DH squeeze in a down-bound elevator and then he can use the glass elevator to get up to your floor. Plus if you really don't get to the parks at park opening, they may not be as busy when you want to use them.

I don't know how easy it is to get a view room at the PPH without paying for it, so I don't think I'd count that as part of your decision. The non-park view rooms have (IMO) a worse view than many of the rooms at Hojo!

I'm 95% sure you can use the pool after you've checked in to a Disney hotel, even if your room isn't ready. :)

Have a great trip!

PPH - 169/nt
Pros -
Like the whimsical decor (from FL orig, I like light and bright)
Views seem awesome
Might be easier to get a good view
Cheapest
Service sounds better
Walk is shorter through the GCH
Pool may be easier to watch the kids in
Cons-
Elevator could be a risky bet (have a double stroller)
Pool is not as nice as DLH or GCH
Not as "Disney" according to reviews

I can't speak for GCH or DLH, but I liked PPH. The elevators can be problematic, but as long as you avoid the "rush hour" you should not have wait too long. The longest I waited was about 3 min. The CMs were nice and the overall feel of the hotel was inviting, but not overly done with Disney. There are subtle hidden mickeys on the carpet, shower curtain, etc. The pool area is small so it will be easy to keep an eye on the kids. Lastly, I didn't find the walk to the parks, DTD, or DLH to be that long. But then again, I don't have little kids just teens.

I found it hard to spend the extra $100+ (night) to stay at DLH. However, I did visit DLH and GCH to see what they have to offer. If the GCH is similar to the Wilderness Lodge (in which I stayed for over a week) in WDW, then I don't think I am missing out too much. WL was wonderful, but not worth the cost.

BTW, I split my stay between Hojo and PPH. Hojo was fine (particularly if you are on a budget), but PPH was a nice treat (an upgrade in every way over Hojo) that followed.
