Hi,

We're long-time Disneyland veterans, but we've never stayed over (lived within a few minutes). Now we're looking to stay 2 nights with a family of 5. Any experience with Portofino? The price looks great for their kid-suites.

We'd rather stay at one of the 3 Disney resorts, but are there any options for families of 5 besides getting 2 rooms or expensive suites? I don't think there are, but need to check here first! Thanks! :surfweb:

Regular rooms at DLH and PP both sleep 5. There are 2 queen beds and a fold out sofa. The sofa folds down more like a futon, then a regular "hide a bed".

I would go with onsite just because I dont think the Porto. is walking distance and that is a deal breaker for us. We like to be able to easily get back to our room if we need something or want to take a nap.

If it's just between the Portofino and on-site, then I agree with Linda, and would choose on-site. I like the DLH rooms with 2 queens and a sofa sleeper in the Sierra Tower. I stayed at the Portofino shortly after it was opened, and even then, as a new hotel, we weren't very impressed, and I really didn't like using the ART.

However, if you broaden your choices to include off-site hotels closer (i.e., HoJo, BWPPI, Desert Inn & Suites, etc.) I would choose one of those.

There are also Kid Suites at the Hyatt Orange County which is on Harbor Blvd south of the Convention Center. This hotel looks really nice and might be a perfect mid-point between Portofino and On Site hotels.

We stayed at the Portofino last September in a Kid Suite - even though we don't have kids. :-) The room was nicer than I expected - the "Kid" section had its own TV and had a sliding partition so that it could be closed off from the "adult" side. There was a set of bunk beds, and then I think the sofa also made out into a bed. It would be a little tight in the kid section with the sofa pulled out, I think. As I recall the other bed was a King size, and that was nice. There's only one bathroom, though...but the sink/vanity area was outside the bathtub/toilet area, so that helps a little bit. As I recall the other bed was a King size, and that was nice. There was also a small table, mini-fridge and microwave on the Kid side. For us it was about a 10 minute walk to Disneyland from there - and we walk pretty fast. There was a shuttle available, but you had to pay for it.

Hope that helps.

A PP mentioned th Hyatt, we stayed there FOR the Kids Suite & it was great, I highly recommend it. THere is a shuttle, & tho it wasn't bad there was one very stinky man that always seemed to be on there when we were....:scared1: For that reason alone we are staying on-site next time. I REALLY stunk.
