we are adding 2 nights at universal to the beginning of our july disney trip

i would love to stay on-site at universal but the prices are outrageous - the best rate i am getting would figure out to $550-600 for 2 nights just for the hotel!!!!! and that does NOT include tickets - plus $15 per night to park our car

am i missing something - where are the discounts for these on site hotels and is it really that bad to stay outside universal

thanks

Bad thing is that most the discounted rates are gone now for summer becuase of WWOHP. I was lucky and booked rooms under the AP rate of $159 now, you can't get a room there for the opening week for under $250 it looks like. You can call and see if they have a AAA rate, even if you don't have AAA you can book it under that and get a AAA card...usuallly the savings makes up for the card. Since AP rates are gone, I would not reccomend looking at getting an AP then if you are not going back anytime soon.

as mentioned, discounted rates are probably sold out by now.

you can stay offsite, but if you do (you're going in July), you may want to consider purchasing the Express Pass once you get there if the lines are crazy long. Granted, this can be expensive (appx 40-50$ each & can be used once per attraction), but may help you see/do everything.

The reason most stay onsite is because a good rate equals purchasing an EP for everyone in their party...and is unlimited vs once per.

PBH still has AP rates. I just got a rate of $219 for a bay view room during the 4th of July week.

If you are only planning two days at Universal, you would only need one night onsite to get the express pass for both days.

You can use APH as a promo code to find the AP rates.

ap rates musta went up then.

our ap rates are $179/$199 for mid-July.

$219 is still a good rate for PBH tho
:thumbsup2

Those are good rates.:thumbsup2

Are those for Bay View rooms or Garden View?

I *think* garden view..whatever is 'standard'. :confused3

We book standard & are YF Platinum...so we are automatically upgraded to Portofino Suite. :teeth:

We get the same suite every year
