Hello,

As the title suggest. What is your favourite non character on site meal. We will have DD (under 3) with us bearing that in mind so nothing too posh lol.

Boma if you are happy with a buffet is our definite favourite at WDW. Lots of unusual choices for the adults plus chicken tenders, fries etc for the kids. Cookies and brownies for dessert as well as zebra domes. The added bonus of seeing the animals from the public viewing areas before and after the meal.

Other suggestion would be the platter at Whispering Canyon it is basic food but always very nice.

I have just been reading about these two. Buffet/family style is probably best for us plenty of choice for DD she isn't fussy but never seems to want what we have ordered lol.

We didn't enjoy Boma when we went for breakfast. Nothing wrong food wise we were seated at a table with dirty plates on took ages to clear them, we were so close to the table behind us I kept getting hit in the back every time he got up or down took ages to get a drink :( That's the only thing really putting me off going back.

Has any one been to Sanaa and have any experience with their children's menu?

Hi, I was just about to suggest Sanaa - we loved it. Our fussy kids managed to eat and they all tucked into the breads we ordered. Another one we all enjoyed was 'Ohana for dinner - they give out leis and there is a lady who sings - plenty of choice for food too.:goodvibes

'Ohana, for sure. They may well offer a separate plate of food for your DD (not entirely sure as you are technically not paying for her) but there is lots of meat plus noodles, veggies, wings, pot stickers and bread. Plus bread pudding and ice cream for dessert. I would highly recommend it.

ETA, 'Ohana is not my favourite but it is what I would recommend for non-character, non-'fancy' dining with a child under 3

One of the few we do time and time again (apart from Citrico's - posh ;)) is Kona Cafe at the Poly. Love the breakfast there but also the evening meals are a bit different and very colourful.

We like the food at Sanaa but the last couple of times we have been absolutely freezing in there. The a/c was :scared1: It's put me off a bit. We've had some good meals at SSR's Turf Club and last year when my (then) 2 and-a-half year old grandson was 'playing up' big time, they were very nice about it, even though we did remove him pretty sharpish - or maybe they were nice because we removed him sharpish, lol.

Not sure if by onsite, you meant in the parks / resorts, but I think our favorite remains House of Blues. They have a lovely kids menu and if your little one is adventurous like mine was when she was little, you can get a few side items instead of a kiddie meal. They bring crayons and coloring in sheets to the table - a sure sign to me that kids are welcome :) - and as well as the food, we love the atmosphere and decor. If you have an early dinner (we've done a couple at 5-5.30 pm) the place is really quiet.

Sanaa - we went lunch time and DD and we were wowed by all the animals. Definitely ask for a window seat. DD had pizza and the naan bread appetiser was good.

Ohana dinner is a fun choice for kids - I have a very cute video of DD learning to hula dance there when she was 3 - they give the kids leis. She wore a fancy dress grass skirt and they made a real fuss of her.

DD has always loved rainforest cafe too.

We are trying be our guest dinner this October for the first time.

From a kids perspective DD loved Ohanas - great atmosphere, she liked the dancing and they generally made a fuss of her. She then got to play on the beach afterwards and toast marshmallows.

She also really enjoyed Coral Reef as she had fun spotting all the fish from Nemo.

Neither are the best food but still good and DD loved them.

We always book Liberty Tree Tavern in the Magic Kingdom every time we go and that has been a family favourite since the kids were little.

I am sure your DD would happily tuck into the mash, turkey etc. (all served family style) and it is very infrormal

I agree Liberty was good food is tasty but not fancy if you have fussy eaters. Also we loved Boma for dinner. Turf Club was very very good.50s prime time the food is good enough ,milkshakes are amazing and its a hoot! We ended up going twice and have booked for this visit.biergarten is also buffet I thought it was just good but DH loved it . We went at lunch though and there wasn't much atmosphere and the band wasn't on so I think dinner would be better, but remember younger have to share your table. We did and enjoyed meeting new people but it might not be for everyone.

O'hana for the food. Coral Reef for the fish (but tank view not guaranteed) and Teppan Edo, excellent food and entertaining Chefs.

We love Jiko's and our two little ones have always been there with us. They have a nice children's menu and colouring for them. Also found Gran Floridian Cafe a good one with children.

We ate at Coral Reef on our first visit when the kids were 7 & 9 - we have since visited EVERY trip since and this year will be no exception - we have never had a seat right by the tank but we enjoy the booths further up as you can see the whole tank and don't have the unruly kids whose parents let them wander off to look at the fish pushing into you as you try to eat.

I find the food good here - not the best, but we have always enjoyed it and the service has been excellent having discovered a chip in my cocktail glass when I was halfway through - I pointed this out to the waiter who not only brought me a fresh cocktail he also took it off the bill!

Another fun restaurant we had a meal at was Whispering Canyon - aside from the lobby being AMAZING (hence our choice to stay there this trip) the food was excellent and the staff are excellent - server Kate who looked after us - even pulled up a chair and started chatting 'food talk' with my husband who is a chef and telling him stories that were 'in-jokes' to those in the industry - one of the biggest tips we have ever left - hope to see her again this year!

Coral reef gets our vote, although not buffet the girls loced it last year

Wow thanks guys.

I am thinking of an early lunch at Sanaa a nice lie in (hopefully) lunch then afternoon in animal kingdom.

Never thought of the house of blues.

Ohara dinner sounds good especially since I can have a lapu lapu. Then we can watch the fireworks on the beach.

Too many descions lol

The only non-signature that we will consistently pay for is Teppan Edo.

We all love the food there.

The other restaurants we like are Yachtsman Steakhouse and (hopefully it will still be good when in reopens) California Grill. We also have known severs that we ask for at both these restaurants that make it a better meal experience.

Just to say DD is 5 now but we have always eaten at these with her since she was 9 mths.

Ohana Dinner gets my vote. DS loves the cocounut race. And we take advantage of being at the Poly to go see Wishes on the beach.

Sanaa would also get a vote from me. I've never done lunch there, only dinner, but it's very nice to wait around in the savanna before being paged. The food is also very good and tasty.

California Grill is on my must-dos (desperatly waiting for them to take ressies for october - praying they will) as the fireworks/MK view is magical. It's a bit expensive, but if given the choice between a Dessert Party for the fireworks eperience + a regular TS for food ..., or CG, we go for CG

Boma would be on my top 5 too. But very crowded and noisy. If I had the choice I'd probably prefer Tusker House over Boma, but since your question is about non character meals, you'd get a rather similar experience at Boma's

Last on my top5 would probably be Kona Café tied with Coral Reef

Rainforest Cafe would be good for your DD - we went as a couple last week and in our ten visits or so the food and service has always been excellent.

T Rex has good theming too but the food wasn't quite as good as RFC, still enjoyable though!

Our worst on site dining experience was Coral Reef so it's good to see others had a positive experience. The food was sub standard (had to send a plate back twice and settled on the third attempt just to eat something even though it wasn't right) and our server was appalling. We removed the gratuity from the bill - first time I've ever done that, but when you overhear a server *****ing about you that will generally lose you a tip ;)

Paradiso 37 was good too food wise - saw a lot of young kids in there. However our server there resembled a Puerto Rican version of lurch from the Addams family (personality of a dishcloth), did nothing all meal (the other servers ended up waiting on us) and then had the audacity to write a suggested tip on the bill with a smiley face lol. Suffice to say he only got a nominal tip :)

My DDs favourite, completely randomly, was Fultons Crab House, but she has exotic taste for her age!
