If I'm on a DCL cruise at my 7 month booking window (and it will be a sea day), is there a way to contact MS on board to switch my DVC reservation? What's the best way to handle this? Should I email my request to MS before we sail? Or get someone else to call for us?

The only way you can have someone else call is to add them as an associate on your membership.

You could call using a cell phone from the ship, but that would run $2.50/minute. If you send an e-mail before you sail, they will not process that request as it would be received prior to the window opening.

Tell the guide on-board that you'll add-on 25 points but only under the stipulation that they can book your requirement at your 7 month window. :rotfl2:

Get your reservation. Get 25 more points. Win-win! :cool1:

Ever tried to book a reservation with MS in less than 30 minutes? :lmao:

Sorry. I'm just full of it tonight. :rotfl2:

If would be nice if the DVC representative on board could help you out. I wonder if anyone is sailing before you who could ask them that question. Ask on the cruise board.

That's what I really meant but decided to make a joke out of it instead hoping the OP would read between the lines. Surely, since they obviously have contact with supervision and can make reservations immediately should someone buy (I'm assuming this since they can add this pixie dust in FL.), they should be able to help out if they're willing to.

Great minds think alike, right?!:thumbsup2

Our 7 month date came up on our cruise last fall. The DVC CMs told me there was no way for them to contact MS for us. Our only option would be to call and pay the phone charges.

They also didn't have access to 2011 point charts (which I found was odd since wouldn't people buying want to see that?) which we wanted to look at so we could have some various scenarios ready if we couldn't get what we wanted when we called once we were back in Florida.

In general the DVC CM's on our cruise were rather unpleasant and had no interest in helping/answering questions if you weren't buying what they were pushing on the spot. We had to ask 2 days in a row to get that Walt and Lily print that everyone was promised at the DVC member party. We did end up adding on at BWV from our guide once we got back WDW and related our experience with the DVC cruise staff. Maybe they could have contacted MS from the boat - our guide and his supervisor didn't know for sure.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably email MS from the ship and call as soon as I hit land to follow up.

I wouldn't count on communications from the ship. During our last cruise, the internet and cell phone service was down more than it was up.

I would email the change a couple of days prior to your 7 months and explain that you are on a Disney cruise with no way to contact MS. You can follow up with an additional email from the ship and you can check your DVC account while on board to verify that the change was worked if you have internet access.

I was on the ship the day BLT opened for reservations. I had to call MS from the ship as that was likely the only way I was going to get the dates I wanted. I started calling at 9:00am and it took me almost an hour to get though. When I did get thought, I waited on hold for about 15 minutes. I did get what I wanted but if I had waited until the next day, I would not have had it.

If you really need to call at 7 months, you will either need to suck it up and pay for the call from the ship or add an associate to your account who can make the call for you.

Most e-mail programs can be set to delay sending an e-mail os that you can time it to arrive after the widnow hass opened. However, the common wisdom is that e-mail reservations are processed later than phoen calls (especially those made when MS opens). So, if you need to call when your 7 month window opens, an e-mail will not be the same.

Obviously, your other options are to change the date of your cruise or change the date of your DVC vacation. -- Suzanne

Here's one other novel option that I nearly used in this exact situation: have a family member on land pretend to be you. Just make sure to walk them through a full typical DVC call and give them ALL of your info that they might even need for the call. Give them a first, second and third option on what to book, too. And if they get into trouble, "click" hang up. The worst that can happen is DVC asks you if you called. Your answer is "yes, but we got disconnected.".
