I've been reading posts here and there of people from different resorts staying in rooms that were previously non smoking and stating that the smell was still pretty bad and had to switch rooms. I also have a sensitivity to smoke and was wondering if they had done the room refurbishments yet? I thought they were going to replace all the carpets and comforters and drapes and stuff to get rid of the smell. Anyone have any info on this? Just wondering if when I make my reservation, if I should request a previously non smoking room??? I'd like to keep my requests to a minimum without worrying about a room that smells like smoke :)

I don't know if you can ever insure that you won't have to smell the odor from smokers, so if you have another type of room request, I would go with that first. Last week we were at the GF in a brand new refurbished room in a newly refurbished building and someone was repeatedly smoking both cigar and cigarrettes on the balcony below. The GF was fantastic and put an end to it within minutes of being notified. My point is that even in a room that has just been refurbished with new carpeting, new drapes, new upholstery and new comforters all it takes is the one inconsiderate guest before you to ruin things. Just be grateful that Disney is willing to take care of it if you run into problems with the odors from smokers.

I'm also sensitive/allergic to smoke. If I understand what the OP is saying is that a room that has had smokers in it previously has a lingering smell and possible dust/smoke particles that MAY affect her health. It is not a matter of just not liking the smell of smoke and just ignoring the smell to enjoy Disney, it really does affect the way you feel. It is a legit question.

Personally when I travel I take my allergy medicine along to prevent any allergy attacks Sometimes I can't walk away from someone smoking or avoid someone exhaling smoke that drifts into my face when I travel so I take my allergy medicine as if it's allergy season in SoCal. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Kikiq, that is exactly why I was asking :) I get itchy watery eyes and will sometimes sneeze in rooms where people had recently smoked. I'd hate to ask to switch rooms when I get there which I why I was doublechecking :) I want our first vacation to WDW to start out on a positive note :)
