I have read that you can rent a cane pole for fishing at PO. WHat do they have for bait? I also heard that the bait was not cheap.

Thanks,

I think you will get an answer to your question if I move this to our resorts board. I'm assuming that PO=Port Orleans?

We rented 5 poles with a cup of worms for i think about 14 dollars. We had alot of fun .

Thanks for the information. My DW doesn't understand why I would want to go fishing at WDW. The answer, of course, is "Because I can!!"

Jdads2, please take photos and share them with us upon your return. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any photos of anyone cane pole fishing at WDW.

:bounce: My DH is planning to doing some fishing on our next trip in November. We are staying at POR. He did it on our last trip and had lot of fun. I hope you enjoy it too.

RAYNA JEAN, Welcome to the DIS!

Did your DH use cane poles, bring his own, or go on a charter? I was told that bringing my pole and fishing would be frowned upon. I don't want to go on a charter, I can go on one here at home. My only concern is that my kids will want to go fishing and then 5 minutes after we start they'll want to go goof off at Ol' Man River.

I don't mind that too much, heck we're at WDW, but I don't want to waste our time(actually, MY time) getting ready to fish and have everyone abandon me...wait, have my children abandon me and be left all alone...hmmmm, That would make an excellent opportunity to take the bait off the hook and relax with a frosty beverage!

DH and I did the cane pole fishing and unfortunately didn't have any luck. There were fish in the pond but they weren't interested in our bait.

I don't remember how much it was, but it was cheap.

We ended up doing the guided fishing tour and had a great time.

It was $4.02 for 30 mins of cane pole fishing with bait.
The CM said the best time to fish was first thing in the AM (around 7-7:30). We could never make it that early so we never did it, but we did go and watch around noon. We didn't see anyone catch anything while we were there.

BTW, the pool bar is very close by!;)

We were staying at OKW which offer a charter trip for $18.00 per person. It included transportation(boat) to PO-Riverside Fishin' Hole, cane poles, bait and a box lunch. The whole event last about two hours. The guild offer some tips, but pretty much left you alone.

It was lightly rain that day, so he and our nephew were the only ones on the excursion. They only caught two fishes. But with those two catches, it was apparent everyone took the 'catch and release' policy serious. Because by the time they got the fish on the dock, the FISH would split the hook out and would be waiting to be toss back into the water.

Oh, watch out for the turtles, they like to steal the bait off the line.
