On our way to Natchitoches - Rog

Last year we were at the Fort for the 4th. This year, we'll be in Rog land...or thereabout.


We'll be at North Toledo Bend State Park and celebrating the 4th in Natchitoches. I'll raise a glass in honor of this great land that allows me the freedom to go to the fort. I may not be able to afford the gas to go but by golly I have the freedom to go.

When I'm watching Louisiana fireworks...I'll be thinking of the fort fiends at the fort.

Not sure if I can organize a golf cart parade at the state park.

Yeah, golf cart parade may be tough since that dang LA State Parks wont let us use em!!! Hope ya have a good timeSherri....NToledo's a pretty nice park, well tucked away and very rustic.

I live an hour from there. And, we have had about 6 family reunions at the North Toledo Bend State Park. We rented the group camp as well as a couple of cabins.

Yes they did and they even offer a Steel Magnolias tour.

Front Street is just beautiful and is on the banks of the Cane River. This is where "the festival" is held each year.

Two tourists were driving through Louisiana. As they were approaching Natchitoches, they started arguing about the pronunciation of the town. They kept arguing until they stopped for lunch.
As they stood at the counter, one tourist asked the employee, " Before we order, would you please pronounce where we are....very s l o w l y."


The girl leaned over the counter and said,
"Burrrrrr. Gerrrrrr. Kiiiiiing."

Ya'd be surprised at how many people sat "Nac-I-Toe-Ches", and ya really cant blame 'em.....our Native American/Cajun spelling leaves many baffled. I mean...how many of you can pronounce this well known street in downtown New Orleans?

We are back and had a great time. North Toledo Bend reminds us of Fort Wilderness before the underbrush was removed. It is a very pretty and clean park. Our site was beautiful. We did laugh...our husbands took it on the chin a few times. Our sites were the only ones with Mickey lampposts and Mickey Satellite dishes.

I didn't know how to pronounce Natchitoches before our trip but I know now. We enjoyed Natchitoches as well. It is a very quaint town and the 4th celebration on the Cane River was great. We shopped, ate great food and enjoyed the fireworks on the river. We did all the tours and saw some beautiful antebellum homes. One night, Steel Magnolias was on the Oxygen channel. It had been years since I had seen it. All the girls watched the movie which was fun for the tour the next day.

I've haven't always been kind about IH 10 in Louisiana and my one and only trip to New Orleans wasn't the best...but on this trip...we met very gracious, friendly people eager to share their culture. We traveled small roads to small towns and in each town there was always a memory moment. It was grand.

It wasn't WDW or the Fort but it was memorable and fun. We even thought that if fuel prices rises much more and we have to cancel our Christmas WDW trip...heaven forbid...we will go back to Natchitoches for their Christmas festival.

New Orleans, itself, is NOT the friendliest place on the planet by a long shot.....its all the little towns and spots off of the scenic hiways and byways where you will find the true "loozianna" folk, they really are good hearted, innocent, old time folks....completely oblivious to the modern worlds jadedness and better for it IMHO.

I was there in 98 at Christmas and they really do it up BIG!! It's known as the City of Lights and they decorate both sides of Cane River Lake and beyond! They also have days of festivals!!!! Good Music, food and fun!!!Hope you make it to the Fort but if not! A great second choice!

Don't go on "festival" day, the crowds are beyond HUGH!!! 150,000+ people on Front Street! Go the day they turn the lights on for the locals which is traditionally the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
