I call them sprinkles now, but I know we used to call them "shots" when I was young.

I've never heard of a "jimmy".....is that a sprinkle?

yep, I never heard them called sprinkles until I moved to NY for 5 years as a kid, in Philly we always called the jimmies. I thought it was a Philly thing but the DIS is helping prove that wrong:thumbsup2

I didn't vote, because there wasn't a "neither"
I don't like them (weired I know :blush: )

But if I had to call them something, I would call them "sprinkles":thumbsup2

Not wierd at all, I think you are perfectly normal. :thumbsup2

I think they're gross, but I voted for "sprinkles" because that's what we call them when my dds put them on their ice cream/cupcakes/cookies, and that's how the two little jars of them in my cupboard are labeled.

Is that a Connecticut thing? Cause I grew up calling them shots, but I can clearly remember going to Six Flags in NJ as a child and my dad ordered me some ice cream with "shots" and the employees looked at him like was nuts!

From Wikipedia:

In the New England region of the USA, sprinkles are often referred to as jimmies (either chocolate or colored). Most New Englanders consider jimmies to be chocolate and sprinkles to be the multi-colored variety.

:thumbsup2

Personally I put Jimmies on the top of my ice cream however when out I order them as Sprinkles usually. I do look at the menu to see what the ice cream place calls them and order than way. Mostly it's sprinkles.

Born, raised and still living in So Ca. They are called sprinkles by me and everyone I know, including the restaurants and ice cream places. I've heard of jimmies, but have never known anyone who calls them that.

As for the others, it's subs, coke and rubber bands. Although I have heard people refer to it as soda, but never soda pop and NEVER just plain old pop. That sounds weird to me.

I've lived in NJ, CT and MA for many years and this is what they were called in each state:

NJ = Sprinkles
CT = Shots
MA = Jimmies

CT here - always have chocolate shots on my ice cream!

ahh yes, the jimmies/sprinkles debate. I call them "shots" and let me tell you, it was just a bit embarassing when I asked for shots one day down south and I got wierd looks. I thought everyone called them shots!

I lived in CT for 18 years and never heard the term 'shots' until today :confused3 we called them all either chocolate sprinkles or rainbow sprinkles. I'm from western CT (Danbury).
