so we're interested in buying but to avoid borrowing we need around 325 points since we have 6 people in our immediate family-we need a 2 bdrm-the problem is that I can't convince DH to commit to $400/month he would rather just pay to stay on site like at Pop Century for 2 room which is costing us $2000. If I could buy say 175pts and borrow for a few years until I can convince him to add on. First of all would this work? Second, what are the benfits or drawbacks to owning at 2 different places.

TIA!

You can only borrow one year of points at a time....so that would give you 350 points to use in a year, but then you'd have no points the following year.

Or you can bank and borrow and have 525 points to use for one trip, but then you can only go once every three years.

If your DH is happy staying at the Pop Century, then DVC might not be for you. For us, DVC was about improving our vacation accommodations, not about saving money.

If having a living room, full kitchen and washer/dryer doesn't appeal to your husband, then maybe DVC won't work for you.

And remember...DVC is for 38-50 more years. So for many of those years it will be just you and DH. So you can't even compare it to the cost of two Pop Century rooms for the entire contract period.

Your best bet is to get your husband to take the DVC tour. If he sees the units and still isn't swayed, then I think you two will probably be staying at other WDW resorts for the future. And that's not a bad thing.

This is going to be a hard sell for you......

First, your DH is equating Pop Century with DVC. Apples and Oranges. Nothing against PC, it's just not the same thing.

Yes, you could just buy the 175, but then you are into immediate borrow mode, which means in year 2 you have no points; you already used them up in year 1.

Try and talk him into renting one time. It will likely run you more than the $2K at PC, but you will learn whether or not DVC will work for your DH.

And no, in my experience there are no drawbacks with owning at multiple resorts other than it requires a little more diligence in managing your booking windows. Obviously you've heard the "buy where you want to stay" story so hopefully you've taken that into consideration.

Good Luck!

Actually DH wants to stay at the "better" accomodations; he lvoes the idea of having a full kitchen and me not bringing a bag of change and hauling laundry down by the pools! We just can't afford it with out DVC not at the nightly rates. But now he's hesitent when it comes to $400/month; he wants to go and go yearly so I am not sure what the problem is I feel like we are throwing money away when he says we'll eventually buy DVC. We might as well put it in now. In therory can we borrow each year and go yearly and then add on points in lets say 3 years? Does borrowing just make your term shorter? i.e. If it a 50year term and you borrow every year then you run out of points in 25 years?

No, that doesn't work. You can only borrow one year's worth of points, those of the following year. You can also bank one year's worth. Back to Granny's post, if you only want to go every three years you can buy 1/3 of the amount of points you need, and then bank and borrow.

If you want to go every year, and need 325 points for the trip, then you really need to buy 325.

Borrowing doesn't have any impact upon the length of the contract, it expires in 2042 for all of the resorts exxcept SSR whare it goes for another 12 years.

We are also a family of 6 and will be staying in a 2 bedroom villa at BCV. With a 150 point contract, I did have to borrow 50 more points from 2005 for the 5 night, Sunday- Thursday, 200 point trip.

But before we check in at BCV on Sunday, all 6 of us are spending Saturday night in 2 rooms at Pop Century. Even with only 150 points, we could do the same trip 3 out of the next\first 4 years.
