Can anyone give me good advice on booking a 7 day cruise with points and/or cash?

I am trying to decide on whether to book a cruise with all points or to book with some points and the rest cash.

How does the booking with points and cash work?

Any advice would be appreciated. :D

As I understand it, you must book a whole person on points. If there are two adults cruising and the rate is 200 points per adult for the room class you want, you can either spend 400 points for both or 200 pts for one and pay cash for the other.

Just bear in mind that if you value points at $10 each, which is the common value used to rent out points, you will likely find that the cruise would be cheaper if you were to rent points at $10 each and then pay cash for all travellers.

I believe there is a $75 fee charged by DVC for booking the cruise and for making any changes to the reservation down the road. And, if there is any chance that you might have to cancel the cruise, be aware that once points are committed to a cruise they become Reservation Points and could no longer be used toward DVC rooms if your plans should change.

TJK described the process well. Only you can decide if it is worth it or not. We did our first crusie this way a few years ago. Get the price from DVC (points and cash) and then get the total cash price from DCL (and a travel agent). Compare them and decide if it is worth it.

I rented out my points to pay all cash for a crusie in April. Only you can decide what's worth it to you.

Good luck and have fun planning.

Your best option is almost always to book with cash and rent out your points. The points are too high otherwise and the negatives associated with changes and cancellations just not reasonable.
