On board Navigator App Screenshots and review (incremental)

sorry just fixed the links

One issue the app has is that it provides zero planning tools. No way to organize schedule or choosing activities and notifications. So, at the moment it truly is a mobile representation of the paper version, but it doesn't take advantage of the technology. My hope is that they will add planning capabilities after the pilot is over.

Does the app use data? I would think it would have to if the navigator changes in the middle of the cruise (which happens often).

It does not go to the internet, if that's what you mean. It only connects to wifi to allow it to talk to the servers onboard. That's why the app doesn't show anything when you launch it when off-ship.

Thanks for posting some screen shots. I don't know why they won't let the app come alive when you're not on the boat...post up more when you can...

I'm guessing it cannot talk to the servers on the ship at that point, but that's just a guess. I do work with computers so it's more of an educated guess from my point of view.

So, does connecting to wifi incur any charges? I just want to know if it is free to use the app. TIA!

that is the same assumption Im making. Probably tries to connect to a either a internal server via local dns or 10.1.*.* type of thing. Either way its a locally accessible server.

I like that they have the menus on there. That way my kids could look it over and decide what they wanted while we were getting ready for dinner and it wouldn't take so long for them to make up their minds once we got to the restaurant. It seemed like once we got in the MDR there was so much going on I couldn't get their attention long enough to go over the menu with them.

You can add favorites from the navigator. There's a heart on the grid that you tap to add them, like you can do on the mde app.

This is coming from someone I know that helped develop it.

Just looked at it on the app store. Under description it says: Disney Fantasy-Navigator is available for use while aboard the Disney Fantasy only during the September 7 and September 14 sailings.

Disney, if you are listening, please roll this out to all your sailings!!

I agree, this would be great for the kids to have a look at beforehand. :thumbsup2

I found the app useful too for the menu and upcoming events for planning ahead. The one complaint I had was it was very slow. This is probably their wi-fi. One of my table mates asked what was in her appetizer, I went to look it up on my app and the server made it back to the table before I could get the menu to load. :(

After a few more days of usage, although lacking planning/schedule layout and notifications, it is handy having the navigator in your pocket. Also great is the fact that you can see schedules for each day in the itinerary in advance.

Writing from beautiful Playa Mia, Cozumel :p

So you turn on wifi and connect to the app = no cost. What would happen if something on your phone tried to use the wifi to connect and, for instance, download email without your prompting? Do you have to have logged on and affirmatively decided to pay for that to happen? I don't know why (since I don't even know that they'll have this on my cruise in November), but I'm obsessed about how this works with the on-board wifi and charges for that...:confused3
