On Board Booking Question - Additional Cabin

I re-booked when on a Sept 2016 cruise. I know that, at the time, I could have booked 2 cabins, but wasn't sure who would be sailing with us. Does anyone know if I can still add a second cabin and get the on board booking discount? My TA said, "that promotion has ended." but, this comment doesn't make sense to me, and she has not clarified.

That promotion ends when you get off the ship. As far as I know, you cannot get the on board booking benefits without being on board.

You must be onboard to get the onboard booking discount.

You have your answer that you cannot add a 2nd cabin after the cruise ends, but for future reference, I think there is a way you could have done it though you don't know the people for the 2nd cabin that you might want. Assuming that it was a husband and wife on the original cruise, you'd book one future cabin for wife and person A and second future cabin for husband and person B. I think you'd need to provide names for person A & B, but they could be changed later. If you use both cabins, then when you board, you'd get extra keys as needed for the cabins where people are really staying. And if you don't need the 2nd cabin, then you cancel it, and replace person A with husband in the first cabin. Hopefully this makes sense and someone who has done this can confirm that this would work!

I think you can do 1 OBB for up to 2 cabins on the same cruise. So you wouldn't have to book cabin B under your current 2nd adult name. You have to put 2 deposits down though, so you do have to make a financial "commitment" (I know it's refundable) for each cabin. That's probably why you can't just add a 2nd cabin later.

as stated .. your onboard booking benefit window shuts when your cruise is over.

RE: Booking rooms without knowing who the people are...
Like described above .... But at least ONE person from the ORIGINAL booking must remain on that ressie. If all original people leave that ressie (with other people replacing them) the original ressie is cancelled and a new one will be booked.

When we have booked two rooms for a cruise DW is in one room and I am in the other. Along with three other people in each room. It's easier (usually less expensive as well) to change names and / or drop people from the ressie as the Pay In Full date approaches. Another benefit of doing this is that each room has the Highest Castaway Club status of the highest person in the room (we have had friends on their first sailing get Platinum bene's because DW and I are both platinum.

At some point a name change fee kicks in - I think after the PIF date.

Yeah, I learned the hard way, just like you did.

BUT - there are other ways to save friends $$$ without the OBB discount. Rewards credit card + Disney Gift Cards purchased at discount club (Sam's; Costco) + Disney Vacation Account = anywhere between 8%-12% savings on cruise.

Another tip, if you aren't certain of your party, add as many TBA passengers as you need. I always do this as we often don't know exactly what we will use it for, or if MIL will come, or if we will decide to put all 5 of us in one room or two. I have kept a spot for my daughter in my room, and my parentsroom, because I wasn't certain they would go and I was thus able to get them 10% off as well. It keeps the space open in your life boat, and you can always cancel the extra before PIF. It also locks in a rate for that additional guest that may rise as the ship fills.

Good tip! I hadn't thought about locking the price for others, as well as the lifeboat space for a room. I was just thinking about locking in the room.
