On a search for a healthier me.

I'm gonna join y'all.
I probably will be a little bit more of a slacker, because I find it difficult to eat healthy, I'm just not used to it. I'll have to start going to get the groceries with my dad when he does so I have control over what I do eat.

But this week, I'm giving up my my pop. The minute that the last bottle Pepsi is gone, I'm done. The reason I waited for this, is I hate Presidents Choice version of Coke, and refuse to drink it. I can give it up, and I have before.

I need to get to work on the exercise. I cannot go to a gym, I do not have the time or the money, so I'm going to stick to using my Gazelle (you know those exercise machines that kind of look like a set of skis hanging in the air and you pull yourself forward with them?) and walking almost anywhere I can. I don't always find the time to do it, I prefer to exercise when weight loss shows are on, it inspires me to work harder and actually exercise. Otherwise, if I'm just standing there, I end up swinging my legs back and forth.

I'm not happy with the way I look right now. I'm aware that I've gained weight in the past couple of years, and I'm getting tired of always seeing my pants size go up. Especially because I don't look that big, I look tiny, but I'm not. The area's that bug me the most are:

The area around my armpit. You know armpit flab? I had my bikini top on briefly this morning, and it was so tight. I need to go get a bigger sized one (this is not only due to armpit flab, I seem have gotten bigger in the bust).

Underneath my bust. When I have a bra on it pushes on the fat near my ribcage and you can totally see it. The same kind of happens in the back. This bothers me a lot.

My stomach in general. When I sit down at school or somewhere, I always have my arms around my stomach because it looks fatter when I sit down. The only time I don't do this is if I have a hoodie on.

I also hate my hips and my thighs. It's impossible for me to find pants, they fit my hips but don't fit my legs. And I have to make sure that my pants are pulled up at the right spot, or it looks like I have fat rolls hanging over. And my thighs, they rub together when I walk, thus destroying my pants and making it uncomfortable to wear dresses.

Those are the main things I would really like to fix. One of the weight loss shows I watch is called Bulging Brides. In each episode there's a woman who can't fit into the wedding dress she bought, and she wants to look her best on her wedding day. She goes on a fitness and healthy diet for 6 weeks with a personal trainer to help her. This show basically has me starting to worry right now, that if I don't start getting healthy now, that in the future, I could end up in the same place as they are. Also, at the beginning of each episode, they tell the women what is in their favorite food that they eat all the time. And the amount of calories is crazy.

I want to slim down a little this summer, too.

From last summer, I've lost 15 or so pounds.
Some of that was probably just "losing baby fat," but I also lost a lot from running insane amounts for lacrosse.

I'm at a healthy weight range now (I'm obsessed with looking up my BMI) but I want to lose another 10 or so pounds over the summer.
Honestly, it's because I want to get into doing commercials and things, so that I can work my way up into an acting career, and I have to get a little bit skinnier for that to be an option.

I want to run after work everyday, and maybe do SlimFast.
Has anyone used SLimFast before? Is it unhealthy?

I've HEARD that Slimfast is unhealthy. But I don't honestly know.

I've calculated my calories for the day, and I'm about 500 under what I should be eating. I'm in the middle of exercise (watching tv while I do it, sometimes taking breaks on commercials), and after I'm going to have water and cucumber.
Cucumber has like no calories =)

Same with celery, both are negative calorie foods. So they burn more calories to digest than the calories in the food.
There's a ton of other fruits and vegetables that are like that too...

How many calories are you suppose to have a day?
I always read different things and I'm confused.

So far I've got around 900 calories today.

Because I was stupid and took some chocolate. -_-
But I wrote it down. And I won't do it again. xD

ETA:
It's hard to get rid of some of the junk food too, because I'm not the only one living here.
Even though I'm giving up all the chocolate (I will succeed with that) and soda, it'll all still be there because everyone else eats it.
The soda, isn't so hard, but the chocolate like draws me, and it's hard to not take some.

i would like to join as well. this is my first summer of not going to camp, so i will be at home alone a lot of the time. i am not aloud to leave my property, so i have to be indoors. i cant excercise much in my house. i feel that i will eat a lot so i will slow down. dance classes are over for the summer, so i wont get a lot of excersise, besides swimming. i will do 12 laps a day. so i will eat a lot better and maybe go in the celler with my dads excercise equipment. i cant really use my knees harshly, because i have a knee problem. so, i will do as much as i can.

goal: loose 5 pounds. my friends used to be able to pick me up... but i am too heavy now. so it wont hurt loosing 5 pounds.
:wishfive
^ i think this is for loosing weight... but i am not sure.

My gosh Kayla, don't beat yourself up over chocolate. 900 isn't even close to what you need. For most teens, it's 1500 calories. If you go to Self.com they actually have a thing to find your healthy weight, and calorie intake. I have no idea how accurate it is, because you're supposed to be like 25 to use it, so I always have a fake age in there...

I'm sure there are others.
I've had around 1039 today because I don't eat lunch on Sundays because I usually have a good big meal at supper. So I just snack at random intervals.

Anyhoo, I hope to lose 7 pounds. I'm not setting a time interval, because then I'll stress. I'm hoping I can get exercise in everyday. I'm not sure if I will have time tomorrow, I may do it in the morning. I prefer to exercise at night, but I have to work tomorrow night. I'm now a bit more motivated to exercise because my friend put up a bunch of pictures of me on Facebook that so sick. You can see my armpit flab, and my stomach sticking out a bit. I've been aware that I had this problem, but I never knew it was so noticeable.

Those Walk Away the Pounds videos are pretty good. I used to have the VHS of one but it broke. You don't need much room at all...as someone said before me, you just pretty much march in place. They have different ones like one mile, two mile and fat burner I think. The woman's name is Leslie Sansone. I think that I will look into buying a new one.

Oh, I know. We always have a bigger dinner (Which I'm eating now), that'll bring me up to around there.

It's just everytime I usually give into something, I like completely lose it, and end up back on it.
It's what happened to me with soda. I quit then one day I gave in and went exactly back to square one. And it annoys me, so I figure if I give in, I'll completely lose it.

Thanks.

Don't worry, if you focus, you can do it. And if you can do it once, you can do it again.
I've given up pop before. Once for lent, even though it's not a part of my religion, and then again last year to get off the caffeine because I'm pretty much addicted to it. Each time I went for MONTHS without it, I was fine. I went cold turkey, I just stopped. If I have something once, I want it more. It's easier for me to not drink it at all, than to never drink it. The last time, the reason I gave up was because I was constantly going camping and stuff, so I'd be eating a lot of McDonalds, so I'd just get pop with it. And after that, I just kept drinking it.
I think I may have tried again in March, but the caffeine withdrawal was AWFUL. Hopefully this time it won't be. I'm done with pop for a while now.

Tonight I used my skii machine or whatever it is for an hour, and did some exercise with my exercise ball.

Easy way to lose weight - Chemo. ;)
Seriously, you get so nauseated you vomit 24/7 and won't eat for 3+ days. I'm down 40 pounds in 9 months.

My body build is naturally large. I used to be very muscley and I still have a large frame. The weight I'm at now, I'm totally comfy with, but it's not proportionate to my frame. In the 3 months, almost, since I've finished chemo, I've gained around 3.5 pounds... ALL muscle. I'm trying to gain weight, but make it as much muscle and as less fat as possible.

Portion Control. Eat smaller meals more often. IE breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack.
Personally, I find Honey Nut Cheerios, granola bars, trail mix, sugar free/fat free stuff, and baked/smart choice stuff yummier. IE Baked Cheetos/Doritos, Honey Wheat Pretzles, Sugar Free/Fat Free pudding/jello, and Fat Free Popcorn.
For days you don't want to eat, or just want nutrients, go for an Ensure drink. They're like Pedialyte for adults, and come in chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.

Since I can't really walk long distances, I stick to stretches, weights, and the bike. All good muscle builders.

Good Luck everyone!

I'm going to join in.

I am not fat by any means, but I just want to start eating healthier and lose a few pounds. I'm hoping to lose 10 pounds by the time school starts, and be down 20 pounds by next May for my trip to Disney World.

My problem is eating too much and not exercising at all. I was doing pretty good with the exercising earlier this year, but then I just got too lazy and stopped. I also want to give up the pop, because I have a slight obsession with caffeine.

The areas I'm most self conscious about are my thighs and my stomach, so I'm going to be working on those a bit more. I own the Walk Away The Pounds videos that someone above mentioned, and they are pretty fun and really easy to do, so I'm going to start up with those again.

wow that post was way longer than I wanted it to be. xD

Hey! I'll join ya! I want to lose a few pounds but I want to tone up my stomach and lose some other stuff on my body. lol I too have been drinking more and more water. I've been cutting down on what I eat a lot...not intentionally I don't think. I just haven't been hungry. I've been running a lot and I'm going to start a vertical exercise plan for volleyball tomorrow to improve my veritcal and speed. I'm ok with my body, I'm just a little self conscience about my stomach area. I have been toning up a lot and losing weight though so I'm happy. My goal is to feel good in a bikini by the end of summer and at the rate I'm going now, I should be able to soon. =)

I too have been getting healthier. I hate the numbers on the scale so my goal was to be happy in summer clothes by disney. well my trip is at the end of this week and I'm pretty close to my goal. Even family members are noticing and saying how good I look! Its not like I was uber heavy or anything, i just wanted to tone up and with a vigorous workout every day, watching calorie intake, special k, and LOTS of water I really notice a difference. Here's to being healthier! :thumbsup2

i dun think i am supposed to feel nausiated after doing 24 laps in a pool... or am i?

First of all, I want to say congratulations on trying to be healthy! It's something more teens should definitely do!

I've had a hard time with my weight because I had an undiagnosed thyroid problem for years! They finally found it a couple months ago and now I'm on medicine so I'll be able to start losing weight (yeah, I'm overweight, but I eat a balanced diet and I don't drink soda or sugary drinks and I play softball) so I'll definitely join this.

Here are a few DVD's I recommend:
Turbo Jam: It's a fast paced workout with great music. All the workouts on the DVD are fun, and you can do it at your own pace, and Chalene Johnson does a good job leading it.
Yoga Booty Ballet: It's a fun dance, strength, and cardio workout. You can do it a few times a week and slim down.
Slim in 6: It's a six week workout plan that you'll definitely tone up on (I've done it for a few weeks and the scale doesn't move much, but you can definitely tell you have strengthened and gained muscle)

Some tips:
1. Complaining about yourself is going to make you feel worse so don't go around telling yourself that you're fat. Find something you like about yourself everyday like your smile, or your eyes, and then remind yourself that you want to become healthy. When you wake up, stretch and plan your meals and exercise time - even if it’s just a walk. The stretch will help you wake up and get the blood flowing and feel positive, great way to start your morning!

2. Also be sure to drink a cup of water within 30 minutes of waking up, as you lose some water while you sleep, and just a 2% drop of the water in your body can cause you to feel bad.

3. Make diet and exercise changes slowly. Just starting into a vigorous workout schedule can make you tired and less motivated when you expect big changes. Just start out trying to walk 30 minutes a day for a few weeks, and then add something else. You'll still get the same benefit. For the diet change: slowly add healthy foods such as whole grain bread products (it takes a while to get used to, but once you've eaten for a month, you'll find it more satisfying) and adding more fruits and vegetables in with you meals or as snacks. Making sudden drastic diet changes will cause cravings.

4. Invest in a magazine subscription to a fitness and health magazine such as Women's or Men's Fitness, Prevention, Self, I'm sure you can find others looking through the magazine section of your store.

Hope you don't mind my huge post, and find the tips I've provided helpful!

I'll join in.
I can't promise many updates but I'll be sure to read to keep motivated.

Since I got my Wii Fit I've lost about 4 lbs! I'm actually surprised that I lost any weight at all!!! My goal is to have a BMI of 22.50, I'm currently at 23.77. (It changes everyday according to my Wii Fit, goes up a bit if I gained, down a bit if I lose) My goal is to achieve this by the time I go to Florida which is August 11. So I think a month and a half is a fair amount of time to lose about 7-8 lbs.
I weigh about 148lbs right now and my goal is to weigh 140lbs by Disney and to look good in a bikini again!!!

A couple yrs ago I weighed about 130lbs (but i didn't have b**bs, hips or a butt back then) so I realize that I won't be able to get back down to 130lbs without losing my favourite body parts!! SO I think 140lbs is a safe and healthy weight for me.

I'm REALLY not into calorie counting or limiting my food intake, I eat relativley healthily, so I'm not too worried about the eating part it's just the working out part that I hope works for me! I'll have to try and limit my ice cream intake though!!! I've bought a ton of popsicles to tide me over because I NEED my fix of something sweet!!!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! Stay motivated, stay healthy and STAY POSITIVE!!

I'm so in on trying this...

My one problome is when i start trying to lose weight i end up getting anorexic tendencys...So i can't chart food intake or i freak out and won't eat for a day or if i do i have to exersize until i pass out.

I think i'll try adding swimming in...and maybe walking but hte fires around here are making the air near immpossible to breath...i weight 150ish...i wanna lose 10lbs before school and 20-30 by next summer...I want to be able to wear a bikini for once!

I have what people describe as child bearing hips...Sooo they make me seem a little off...And all i ever lose is my chest which i really don't need to lose anymore of...Sooooooooooo lets hope this works for me...

CosmoGirl and seventeen have good workouts in them too...

See, my problem is staying hydrated. Going thru chemo, I would constantly be dehydrated. Doctors would encourage me to drink, but I was just too nauseated. I would then get hooked up to an IV and have bags of fluids pumped into me. (Nevermind the going pee every 20 minutes, even tho I have an abnormally large bladder)

It's still hard for me to drink what I need. Some days I'll be on a water kick and it's all I'll drink, and others I won't even touch it. I'm cutting out soda, as is my whole family. Know those small little Smuckers Jelly glass jars?
http://images.wikia.com/muppet/images/b/b3/WelchsMuppetsInSpace.jpg

I have 1 of those a day, 2 at the most, with soda. Other than that it's apple juice (in moderation, gives me bowel problems) OJ, iced tea, or milk. During chemo I was on a BIG milk kick, it was all I would drink for days on end.

I was 160 pounds when I started chemo. I finished at around 126ish. I'm now at 130 pounds. I like this weight, so once I can exercise more once my knee gets better, I'm going to try to keep this weight. Gain as much muscle as possible, but still maintain a healthy weight. Before I was "at risk for being oveweight" and now I'm "healthy".

Oh, and just because you don't drop sizes, doesn't mean you aren't losing weight. I stayed the same size in tops, and lost 1-2 pant sizes. Focus on the numbers, not the sizes.

Oh do I ever hear you!

I think a good rule is just to eat half of everything on your plate except fruits and veggies, unless you are truly ravenously hungry, then chow down! XD Drink only water and iced tea. That way you won't have to write down everything and you won't feel bad when you realize later that you ate too much, just remind yourself that it'll be ok if you get back on track. C:
And hey, having varied amounts of calories throughout the days makes your metabolism work better. It's how nature works.

As for the wide hips, no worries - most guys I have met like mine.
And they give you shape.
It's unfortunate that pear shaped people always lose weight in the bra area fastest, but it'll even out eventually.
