OMIGOD...No more Adventurer's Club?!?!?!

....The rumor also states that another restaurant will be built at the far west end of Downtown Disney, between Cirque du Soleil and the Saratoga Springs Resort. If anybody has more information about this rumor, please let us know.[/I]

This is not correct. The far West Side of DD may hold Cirque du Soleil, but it is as far away as you can get from Saratoga Springs. The closest resort to Cirque is Old Key West.

So not sure where the rumor comes from, but at least some of the info in it is just wrong.

FYI!!

Just a sidenote here, but can someone explain to me the whole premis of the Adventurer's Club? Please!

Last year, the Adventurer's Club was the worst experience we had at Disney, it actually caused me to write a letter to Disney specifically about it. The guy at the door was the rudest person I have ever met in my life. I was sooo angry and my DF was so furious that the second we walked in, we just looked at each other and walked right out. It left such a bad taste in our mouths and that whole nite that I'm not sure I can even convince my DF to go to PI ever again.

However, I have heard lots about this place being wonderful... can someone explain to me the whole idea behind it?

You really have to stick around for the shows. When we were sitting in the main 'lounge' there were a few things going on but I was thinking - this is it? Then we took in one of the scheduled shows in the rooms - excellent!! The show times are posted on the doors leading into the rooms. They are about every 45mins I think and rotate from room to room. It is basically like a comedy/improve set - VERY funny. Of course a few drinky-poohs don't hurt either!! LOL

:goodvibes Ive been to the AC many times the shows are very funny, but one time i decided to skip the library show an had such a gr8 time in the loung area. The maid and some other characters came out and had us all cracking up. :rotfl2: I hope they dont close it down :flower:

I somehow can't seem them tearing out all of the PI clubs, especially since they just built Raglan Road! Sort of along the lines of "if it's not broke, don't fix it!" I agree that it would be nice if they'd update the material at AC, but I certainly hope it doesn't go anywhere!
Actually, the Raglan Road actually supports the rumor. Mouseplanet says Disney is making MORE money on the leased resturants like Fulton's etc.... Raglan is part of that move...

What's worst about that rumor is that it has them keeping three clubs, but targeting what I believe to be the best (and the only true Disney experience in that area) for demolition because diners would most likely want a view of the water. What a colossal waste, if true.

They can knock down the clubs/shops around it and build the restaurants! How many people actually get a table close enough to the windows to enjoy a view of the water anyway??

I am sorry you had a bad experience, misslissa. Please don't let a door person affect your entire view of the club.

And for the people who enjoy the club, take the time to let Disney know how much you do. You don't have to say "I heard a rumor the club is closing and I'm upset", just something like "Wow. I have never been to someplace like that, it was so fun and I am sure glad its there"

Hopefully the AC will be there for years to come to keep us laughing.
Kungaloosh!

The AC is sort of hard to explain.

It's supposed to be a social club of "adventurers" circa 1930's-40's. Each adventurer has their "schtick", and they play their "schtick" very well.

The guy at the door being rude may have been part of his "schtick"...agian, it's not the Magic Kingdon...it's meant to be a little more "adult" in nature, and therefore the humor can be more pointed &/or sarcastic. Or the guy could have just been being rude!!!!

It's the kind of place you have to sit in for a while. You have to soak up the atmosphere. You have to get the "hang" of the place, so to speak. You have to participate/interact with the CMs who are playing the adventurers.

The first time DH & I went, we hated the place, couldn;t figure it out. The next time we went, we got there in the middle of a lot of activity with the CMs & the talking stuff on the walls, and we loved it!!!!!

We try to get there every trip at least once.

As an aside, Raglan Road is a nice place and a good addition to PI. I wouldn't want to see them turn that whole side of the street into restaurants though. Between DD, and the hotels and the BW, there is plenty of dining at WDW.

IMHO, PI is broke. Back when it opened (and I remember eating at the Fireworks Factory) it was great. A place where adults could have a little grown-up time, Disney-style. People could club hop, even if they weren't normally club-hoppers. Bands playing live on the stages - even those silly shot girls. We ALWAYS made sure to get what ever package/ticket/AP that included PI.

Now, it's just plain sad. No way to really tell you've left DTD and entered a special place. Kids everywhere, running & screaming. Hand stamps, wrist-bands, videos on screens (if we're lucky) - what's special?

I love AC - I've got the kind of spirit that gets me called up on-stage (I've had Pamelia Perkins singing while sitting in my lap!). I used to love the CW, but it got old and same-old same-old. But PI needs a re-design. Add some more restaurants to generate the $$$, and go a bit over-the-top on the few 'clubs' that remain (AC being one). Heck, have the AC cast roam the streets of PI. Add another AC-like club (maybe like a permanent Ren Faire, or an Old West, like the Diamond Horseshoe). Theme the heck out of it, and folks will come.

Otherwise, PI will turn into just another Boardwalk; not that BW is bad (we love Jellyrolls) but that Disney is big enough to support multiple restaurant/club areas.

IMHO - YMMV

From the boat dock at SSR, you can take a short walk through the golf course and over to Cirque Du Soleil. It's maybe a 10 minute walk to there.

I'm hoping the AC doesn't close down and will be writing a letter to Disney.

No activity in the Adventurer's Club involves the view outside. Therefore AC could very well be moved to the other side next to the Comedy Warehouse.

Another very possible alternative is getting rid of Pleasure Island completely and making it into "Centerside Downtown Disney".

By the way, the "long walk" to the West Side bus platforms passes through empty land very usable for expanding DD and then those platforms could re-open.

I must be missing some about the AC. I went there with some friends in 2003, and I was bored. There were lots of people just sitting around, and if I recall. some guy was telling some sort of story. I was falling asleep.

My experience exactly. 45 minutes of zero entertainment value. And I was really looking forward to it and had dragged friends along! I still hear about it to this day, and though I still continue to hear rave reviews about it, I'm too tired in the evenings from doing fun daytime stuff to haul myself over to PI and wait an hour for the payoff.

I used to do improv myself, so I don't think that I wasn't getting the jokes. More like nobody was making any, and a couple of dozen tourists were walking from room to room (or sitting waiting for something to happen).

This would have been about 4-5 years ago -- we ate at that fireworks restaurant also, if that helps date things. And they had a New Year's countdown on the stage outside and we went to the improv as well.

As with most Improv, you have to realize that every night isn't going to be the same, and just as some nights you'll laugh til you cry :rotfl2: , other nights you might just cry :sad1: .

As the AC tends to draw a more, shall we say, mature crowd than many of the other clubs at PI, and as it is the sort of place where you need to stay for awhile to enjoy it, I'm wondering if the idea may have been floated to relocate it elsewhere at WDW -- perhaps to the BoardWalk somewhere, or even to the Poly or AKL.

The decor *is* intricate, but if that water view for dining is worth so much, relocation might still be a break-even possibility.
