OMG! Received a beneficiary letter!

When my husband's grandmother died, she left an insurance policy. Since his father predeceased her, DH and his sister were the beneficiaries. They split $500.00. It was a big policy when she got it, but it never increased. And he only found out about the money from one of those "found" money websites. He did the search himself for free and got the information from the state in which she died.

I hope you get what you need, but realize that policies from so long ago are often very little today.

May I ask what the "found money site" was? Thanks.:flower3:

I think we got some spam email, but if you google "found money" there are a lot of sites that are listed. What we did was look at one of them and found we needed to do a search on the Commonwealth of VA website for "unclaimed money". That search brought up a search for names of people who had unclaimed $ reported to the state by all kinds of places, banks, utilities, insurance companies. We searched on the his grandmothers name (s) and his father's name. We actually came up with more money, but since his father had remarried, the step mother needed to file that claim. We filed the claim through the state, who sent it to the insurance company who sent the $250.00 to us.

I have been lurking on this board too. Can't wait to see how much you get.

First time I've posted but I've been checking this post daily. I'm so excited for the OP. I love seeing things like this happen. Can't wait to hear.

Nuttin. Darn. :sad2: I had to be 10 days already, hasn't it? I'll have to check when I sent the paperwork in. I wrote it down on my calendar at work. Just think, when we do finally get it and tell you guys, you'll have nothing to look forward to!

Not quite as exciting as waiting for a check to arrive in the mail, but have you considered calling the co. and asking them the amount of the checks? If they've already been written and mailed, they should be able to tell you how much they are for.

Look at it this way, we all followed the locked safe thread and thoroughly enjoyed it! Unfortunately for the poster, she didn't get anything but some old papers for the entertainment she provided us with. She was very kind in letting us live vicariously though her mystery! :thumbsup2

At least you know that you're going to get some money, you just don't know how much!

so, how's the check going to be opened?

are you going to open it quick when it arrives? open it with someone else?
will you both see the amount at the same time?

:thumbsup2
