OMG plane tickets 😳

$3000 for RT Boston to Orlando is insane and definitely not normal, even today. But domestic flights are getting really expensive, especially during peak times of year.

@kitkat4622 , the week after Easter, meaning April 3-10? I'm seeing MUCH cheaper flights on Delta and American. Like, less than $400 r/t. I understand preferring JetBlue, but at a certain point, it's not worth it.

I assume you're talking 4/17-4/24. Can you shorten your trip? 4/17-4/21 is <$400pp.

Other than that, I would set up flight tracking from PVD, BOS, and BDL. In the meantime, come up with a "Plan B".

ETA: Just to think "outside the box", I priced a private plane, but could only do 90 days in advance, so I picked a random Sat-Sat in August. PVD-ISM (Kissimmee):

Yes, 4/16 or 4/17 to 4/25. I've done school vaca weeks before, these prices are ridiculous compared to those.

As an aside I think shortening a vacation by 3 days is quite a lot especially if you don't have that many days to start with. That's not IMO a realistic way of providing a possible solution. Sometimes it can help by coming home the day before or extending by a day though or in other cases just changing the time of day either flying home very very early or coming home very very late.

Next month we're taking a 5:45am flight to LaGuardia even though our flight to Europe out of JFK isn't until the next evening. We didn't want to have to take such an early flight the day before the long-haul flight (more like mid-morning to early afternoon was the time we were hoping) but the points difference on SWA was quite a lot to make it later on in the day unless we chose the very late flight and we didn't want to do that.

Have you tried Google flight or Hopper(?)? They'll compare multiple airlines. Personally, knowing it's spring break week, if I found prices at <$400pp, I'd probably snatch them up now.

And by the way, while I've been able to find BOS-MCO flights for less during April vacation week (Apr 17-24 next year), $1000 r/t is the general baseline, and it's not odd to see $1500. If you can avoid April vacation week out of BOS, you should. And that goes for going ANYWHERE, not just MCO.

So it sounds like you basically refuse to fly anyone else except JetBlue? Because, for the non-holiday weeks, Delta and American are already as low as they're going to get.

I agree with your statement but would also add in it can be harder to do other airlines depending on what you've have going on with your airline of choice. Such as fees, such as loyalty/rewards, such as status, such as market share, etc.

Domestically we fly SWA primarily for a multitude of reasons. They overwhelmingly have the market share at our home airport, my husband has A-List Preferred this year but has had A-List for a good amount of years now, we have Companion Pass this year (which for the OP would be better as it would reduce their cost IF we were talking about SWA). Other things like a branded CC can come into play especially if they come with perks that reduce costs (like baggage fees or seat selections, etc).

FWIW I personally do not want to fly American so even lower costs would not make me do it unless literally they are the only ones that go to a particular destination. Delta is the most comparable in costs to SWA at my home airport which shows how much SWA has gotten up there in costs.

But like I said I agree with your statement, if the costs are to the point where someone can't make it work but another airline that is possible and reasonable in how they operate were available it might be time to switch for just that flight.

I am looking for just JetBlue flights also... I have several hundred thousand JetBlue Points I'd like to use. Delta and American don't accept them.

********UPDATE ON FLIGHTS*******I was able to find flights on Jetblue 4/11-4/18 for less than 1100.00 round trip for the 2 of us. I also had a travel credit of $753 so out of pocket cost was $349.62 for the 2 of us. I am a very happy disney person right now. NOW I am waiting on Disney to drop a promotion for my dates (I am not counting on this but it would be nice)

And yes I fly Jetblue because of my points and the great luck I have had traveling with them
If I didn't have that travel credit that needed to be used I would have looked elsewhere.

I haven’t tried it yet since it’s new this year, but Jet Blue and United have partnered on codeshares and are or will be allowing booking of, say, United flights from JB’s site, and even redeem TrueBlue points for them.

Beyond that there are rabbit holes to go down for transferring airline points between other points systems. Off the top of my head I can’t remember whether it’s a good deal to move TrueBlue points into something else or not, but even if it’s not a great deal at least the option can be there.

It's too early to be looking at April. A lot could happen with oil prices and demand by then. Historically you get the best prices 2-4 months out.

Nope. Not an option. The United fares come up when choosing $$$ option. When I choose points the United flights are not an option to purchase.

It's too early to be looking at April. A lot could happen with oil prices and demand by then. Historically you get the best prices 2-4 months out.

I'm going to be honest, I never find this to be that true, especially with United.

We've booked early before and I've watched the price go up and down until we left, and the difference was usually only about $30-$50. And the good seats went first!

Be aware Jet Blue is now selling mostly United flights since they partnered and canceling JB operated times. If you buy a JB ticket and the flight time is cancelled or changed they will not allow transfer to a United flight listed on their website only to a JB flight and vice versa.
Learned this the hard way this year but at least it was arrival day as we used them one way... Still had some miles I wanted to use took an opportunity and regretted it.
Yet another reason we unfortunately had to move away from JB 3 years ago.

Have you considered flying from MHT, PVD, or BDL? My sister has found some killer deals from PVD, although I think it’s been a few years since the last time she flew out of anywhere but BOS.
