My cat is not really a prolific small animal catcher (although today for some reason he has managed a bird, a vole already)

Our patio doors were open and the cat popped in making a yowling noise holding a long snake in his mouth!!

EEEK!

It was not dead either - although it was playing dead.......

Thank GOD DH was here to sort it out. He was about to cut its head off with a spade which was freaking me out, so I insisted we put it back into the field.

OMG.. Im in shock.
We have photos... might try and post them later...

ewwww....

O.M.G I would freak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The cat's head or the snake's?

Luckily he did as you requested. I believe snakes in this country are protected species.

Hmmmmm luckily our 3 haven't brought anything like that in! Must say snakes are quite common in this country and the warmer weather may have brought it out.

Yep I think adders are protected :)

I'm waiting for the "omg,my snake just got kidnapped by a cat" thread. :teeth:

lol! It was just a grass snake I think. Ironically my son was reading a snake book at the time.. so we looked it up.

It was sssooooo scary though!
I had no idea that cats would even try and catch a snake! My cat is weird! ;)

OMG this is one of my worst nightmares. We live near fields and I know there must be some snakes in there somewhere, my cats are always hunting and I dred them finding one.

Oh no, I would have freaked too!! I live next to a field too and we have had mice, birds and rabbits (wild ones, I once came home fom work to find a rabbit body at the front door and the head at the back. That was from Holly though our old cat. Luckily though our current 2 don't do that, especially as we have 3 pet bunnies!) Now I fear too we will get a snake, I hadn't thought of that before!
Glad you put it back though, I would have got DH to do the same.

OK, just noticed you live in Northants too, where abouts?

we live in a village close to Brackley..
what about you?

Yes glad DH put it back, as I just looked up grass snakes and they are protected too.

Still freaking here. Hope the cat doesnt catch it again.

He doesnt catch much, but he does catch weird things.
I saw him walking down the road with a frog dangling out of his mouth a few years ago.

The snake takes the biscuit though.. (not literally! :) )

I know Brackley and that area. My DH is from (and my inlaws still live in) Charlton. My FIL works in and around Brackley (he is a driving indtructor.) We now live in Corby, the other end of the county.

I just noticed your sig. We help to run the theatre in Corby. I sing too!!

oh wow... i love singers Danauk!

we should have a private chat!
