so what were people saying about lower crowds in november?

DD is at DHS right now and she said that the line at Toy Story at rope drop was initially 60 minutes and within 15 minutes it was up to 90 minutes.

that's insane.

She was going to try to do it standby, but she'll wait until her FP kicks in.

Instead she went over to the frozen singalong.

she said that Magic Kingdom was massively packed yesterday. So crowded that they kept it open until midnight even though it was supposed to close at 10

she just messaged that they just announced at DHS that because of the large crowd, they're adding on a second fantasmic today (it was scheduled to only have one).

she said the disney people are shocked at the crowd levels in the parks.

They weren't expecting this many people (as you can tell by the hours that were set for this week and next)

Veteran's Day ...

you would think disney would have expected the massive crowds..

MK was supposed to close last night at 10, but was kept open until midnight because there were so many there.

DD left early because her husband was in terrible pain.
They had to leave via the behind the scenes area.
it was so massively crowded on main street there was no way to get out without going behind the scenes.

and the announcement at DHS just now of a second fantasmic - disney clearly has been taken by surprise.

you would think disney would have expected the massive crowds..

overall, the crowds were not "that massive" (more massive than expected, but out of proportion)

TP predicted a level 5 and saw a level 8.
so that's crowded but still fairly manageable. It's still below what we'll see in 2 weeks time for thanksgiving.

Disney has been selling 4 days discounted tickets to vets and active personnel, as well as room discounts

veteran's day on a tuesday probably invited a fair number of guests to take their monday off, and have a loooooong week-end with the Mouse.

I'm not implying that it was not crowded, but I think it was expected (maybe not in such amounts, but it must have been anticipated at some point, because to extend hours of operation "on the fly" is not an easy task, and it's not something you can do out of the blue)

veterans and military always get discounts - it's year round..

it's very weird to have such a high turnout on veterans day....
and still again today..
apparently, florida schools got the day off..
where i'm originally from, only govt offices are closed, nothing else...not schools, not businesses...
so for me it's very unexpected..

and opening up the behind the scenes area in MK is not typical...it happens on some EMH evenings (which this wasn't)

i guess the moral of this story is, if you want to go on toy story, use FP+.
Because there's a chance you won't be able to do it standby even at rope drop....unless you're willing to wait 90 minutes - truly insane

Just FYI, veterans don't get discounted WDW tickets unless they are retired from the military (medically or time wise).

veterans by definition are military...
all US military, active and retired get discounts of one kind or another at WDW...
the biggest is Shades of Green - actually a DOD property,..
but they also get discounted tickets..

if you have the opportunity to stay at SOG, it's fantastic...the best deal anywhere and a beautiful resort!!!!..

TSMM has been down most of the day so far..

perhaps that's why there was that massive line at rope drop..

perhaps the ride never opened at all..

DD got a paper FP to come back when it's working..

but so far it hasn't been working..

Yikes! Hope the crowds die down tomorrow when I get there!

it finally started working again in the afternoon (i was watching the wait times on MDE - it was closed for all or most of the morning)...

DD sent a picture of the FP line in the afternoon....it was all the way down the street - the FP line, not standby!!!! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

but i think the whole thing was due to the fact it was closed in the morning..
hopefully, it will work fine when you're there..

by the way, DD had a FANTASTIC time at DHS today!!!!...

Probably a bit late now, but if you go to guest services they will add a 4th bonus FP for another day to use anytime with your MB :) they did this for us for both BTM and SDMT so on our second MK day we had 5 FPs :)

thanks - i'll let her know in case it happens again! :)

So DD is at DHS again today (Monday)
She had a FP for the frozen show but due to technical difficulties the show was cancelled
They were told they would get an email with a new FP
But the email didn't come
So they were told to go to a kiosk
But at the kiosk they were told it would take another hour before they could get the FP
After an hour it still hadn't come
And in the meantime Toy Story is also down and they've missed their FP for that too

She went to guest services for help but he said he couldn't
It definitely is a problem park

Two big attractions both down due to technical difficulties
And people essentially having 'wasted' fastpasses
Fortunately for them this isn't their only day at DHS

Rides go down at WDW all the time and they did with the old system too. It is a pain granted. Shame about the e mail. When this happened to us in May twice I got the e mail within an hour or less. Hope they managed to enjoy their day all the same.

The issue is they waited for the frozen singalong for an hour then were told that show was cancelled for technical reasons and they'd get an email FP But they didn't So they were told to go to kiosk where they couldn't get it either And then told by guest services that there are no paper FPs anymore But that's a lie as they were given one last week Anyway That's a lot of time to wait for nothing Of course disney doesn't really care if you waste your time waiting in line

She shouldn't have needed an email. If a ride goes down, a new 'valid for any attraction' FP appears in your MDE. No email necessary.

I just looked at the MDE current wait times for DHS
It's insane and indicative of the problems this park has
On a not very crowded day at the park Toy Story has a 150 minute wait, tower of terror has a 70 minute wait, rock n roller coaster s 60 minute wait, star tours and the great movie ride a 30 minute wait
